I've been given £250 to go on a Rally driving day.

There are loads about so I was wondering if anyone could recommend one.

Gravel/dirt not tarmac
North East location preferred but could travel to North West or down the A1 (and combine with a family visit).
As much driving as possible.
Not too bothered about what car it is (should I be, I'm not a rally fan or petrol head?).

Cheers,

You should be.... to a degree. Aim for somewhere that uses RWD (likely few and far between now sadly)

I know people that have done their rally licence here and meant to be good. I think one of their Impreza's is RWD too.

I did a full day at http://www.billgwynne.com/ and had a great time. I chose to do the Impreza 4x4 as my voucher covered the cost (and I drive 4x4 cars so it seemed to fit). However some other people on the day were in a RWD Escort and seemed to have every bit as much fun.

+1 for Phil Price, went there for a stag do and it was brilliant. Loads of 1 to 1 instruction in Mk 2 Escorts, a drive in an Impreza and a fast passenger lap in a Group N spec Impreza too.

This lady enjoyed it:

My sister went to Chris Birkbeck years ago and had fun. Ticks the box for NE too.

I went here five or so years back and did this course IIRC -- really enjoyed the day:

It's quite a way South (near York), but not a million miles off the A1.

Like you, I'm also not a petrol head, but went with a couple of mates who are. I found it to be a grand day out -- you get a good bit of car time, and do all the driving during the day. The instructors were decent and help you out with hand brake turns and so forth. The day finishes off with a ride with the instructor at the end, which is exhilarating/terrifying in equal measure.
