Mrs S vista laptop (god I hate vista) wont allow browsers to connect to the internet. Update downloads working fine and the laptop can connect and transfer data to/from the server drives (this is over wifi to the router modem)

Wont work with Chrome, FF or iE.

Have released/renewed ipconfig and rebooted BT home hub and laptop.

What else do I need to be looking at? cheers
God I really do hate Vista. Obviously this W7 machine is fine as Im posting using the same gateway...

can you ping 8.8.8.8? that's google dns servers, be a place to start. When you say update downloads are working fine - do you mean that when you windows updates it does actually check in to MS - what i'm getting at - is that maybe the machine already has updates waiting to be applied?

Have you tried it over ethernet connection into router?

works over ethernet. 😕

I have re acquired the wifi network connection a number of times, but Im guessing theres somethign about a proxy setting it doesnt like. NBothing has changed on the laptop, but I have just installed some homeplugs, BUT the laptop is still supposed to only connect via the wireless router modem anyway, not the homeplugs (thats for elsewhere on the network)

well d'Oh is me 😳

have rebooted the wifi card with the hardware switch and it seems to work.
It would appear that restarting the laptop (first thing I did) is not the same as rebooting the network card FFS!

Thanks dh, your post put me on the right track.
