I kind of vaguely knew it ws coming back, if only because it was announced that Graham Bell won't be presenting this season - he's doing Dancing On Ice so Chemmy is stepping up

https://twitter.com/ChemmySki/status/1347537733401587712

First show 10/01/21 6.15pm BBC 2.

I wonder how badly the racing season has been affected by the covid lockdowns? I know most of France was closed for skiing until at least after Christmas, though skiing is happening in Italy (Dave Ryding did fairly well in Alta Badia) and it's almost business as normal in Swiss ski resorts

I'll not into it but I know a few people on here have really missed the slopes over the mess of 2020/21. Hopefully bring a bit of cheer.👍

I do hope people aren’t suffering from not getting to their Chalet for six weeks.

I usually love a bit of Ski Sunday, but it'll just be another programme rubbing in how shite life is at the moment, so I think I'll avoid.

Yay! Love SS and it has the best theme tune of any TV programme ever. Just hope I can get to Glenshee at some point this year.

Obviously Graham is struggling for cash this year with COVID !

He was never the lightest on his feet, more power and brute force over dexterity and technique, will be interesting to see how that transfers to skates !

(Or am I getting the wrong idea of this thread)

The track is called Pop Looks Bach, it's been largely retained throughout the entire running of the show, remixed/resampled countless times.

My Dad is a violinist, he's played it hundreds of times in concerts on themes like "Classical Meets TV Themes" and Classical Does Pop Music and do on, occasionally it'd get an outing on Last Night of the Proms as well.

There's the briefest of brief glimpses of him in this Philharmonic recording for BBC Radio.

As Dez says,it might feel like rubbing in how shite it is just now,I am 45mins from the slopes, there is snow and I can't go 🙁 🙁  However, over the years the theme tune has never failed to give me that childlike ,hairs on the back of the neck excitement about days out on the hills.

Yep, that's my era. "Go Poddy Baby".

See also Franz Klammer on the edge of control.

Ah Clark Rundell conducting. He's a big Zappa fan.

The tune or the start gate beeps that prefix it... OMFG those beeps flick a switch deep in my animal brain that only makes the theme tune even better.

EDIT even though they binned them off years ago...

I don’t think it matters if there is any racing. Last seasons series didn’t have racing in it. It was all about lifestyle and worthy people going on a ski holiday

There is indeed racing on. Loads of it on Eurosport along with ski jumping, Nordic and Biathlon.

Good result for Dave Ryding. Genuinely in with a chance of the win.

BBC reporting the Wengen downhill race cancelled due to a British covid superspreader.

Gutted.

Sorry Tom, I'm missing the irony or connection of a ski race in Switzerland having anything to do with Brexit or the EU?
Link to reports?

I have loved Ski Sunday in the past, not seen it for 2 years. Now I dunno if it was just this weeks episode or if this is a new format, but it was exceedingly dull to watch.
followed the new trend of showing people when they talk, instead of the skiing/mountains. IE Talking Heads.
Like when they showed the Womens downhill, the described the first round, I mean wtf??? Show the highlights, not some crap cuts and talking the results.
I was hoping to get the kids excited enough o hit the dry slope, they just wanted it to be over.

I thought Chemmy was okay, she knows her onions about racing. I think Ed Leigh is just a bit of a chancer though, seems like he is pretty much blagging it all the time. They need a racer on the team if they are going to cover racing. Would just be embarrassing having a non racer (or non skier) talking to WC racers. They couldn't have Ed Leigh & Jenny Jones on a ski show.
Nothing against JJ though, I worked a couple of shifts with her in EB (before she was famous).
My kids watched it, both said they fancied a bash at racing, MiniDT's (9yrs) "yeah, I could ski that" watching Women's DH. Me "cool, lets give it a bash".

@TheDTs err cos it's the only ski resort in Europe that Brits are allowed to visit given that we're banned from the EU. Switzerland seemed to be held up as some weird example of the 'sunlit uplands' that we would be looking ahead to post Brexit by some Brexidiots too.

Nobody is allowed to ski in France or Italy, nothing to do with Brexit or the EU. Switzerland is not a "Resort" BTW. It's like a country all of its own, it's not in the EU either! We can't blame everything on Brexit.

Yeah I'm aware that Switzerland isn't in the EU, that was the point that I made.
