Nah, Frankers. That video was proven to be a fake. The real leaked vid was an internal release to Apple execs, and just showed the external shell.

Watch it [url=

It won't look anything like the pics above.

Dunno, I've seen various versions of the first pic in the thread, including videos and internals. I think it is probably very close to what will be released.

Which was my point really - there are several different images floating around and I showed a selection - no-one really knows what it WILL look like as there are so many rumours.

It's the 4 but taller with a unibody back for sure.

I'd love a different design but it just won't happen.

(there is a massive chance I'll be looking pretty stupid come 6 lol)

My bet is the same physical size as the current one, but with a larger screen by going edge-to-edge, and I think it's safe to say it will have a 'retina' very high resolution screen. Same home button placement and design as the current one, maybe a bit of a curve to the back.

I do agree with comments about iOS looking dated now - it used to look great, but I think Android (particularly on my HTC Desire S) has a 'classier' look now. You can of course make Android look completely gash as well.

Same home button placement

Rumours about it not having a physical button at all.

Also rumours of fingerprint login.

Hmmm

Well my HTC sensation contract ends this month. I'm on EE so would like to make use of 4g. However I'm not impressed with the system on my iPad and wish I'd've gone for an android based tablet. Unless they do something amazing then I won't risk getting an iPhone 5

Anyone know if HTC have something new on the way in the next couple of months?

Lots of refurb iPads have appeared
http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad/ipad3/wi_fi
Are they bringing out a new iPad as well?

Yeah, I was wondering if they were going to get rid of it altogether and just have a full edge-to-edge screen.

They will launch a 7" iPad either today or at the second press conference booked for October.

I had the 3G up until 3yrs ago, but have so far resisted upgrading my 4 and will probably still resist when the 5 comes out. Mine still does everything I want from it!

I will get one simply because we are due an upgrade and, as we don't intend moving suppliers and it is a business expense, I don't mind being locked in.

I'm waiting, I'd like to upgrade my 4, but I didn't see the 4s as a worthwhile spend, I have a Desire S for work and I wish I could shove it up our IT specialists Arse it is so useless!

What I would like to do is upgrade my 4 to a 5 and then use my 4 for work. 😉

I just hope they don't make it much bigger - I find the bigger droids to big for one handed use.

Id actually be happy if it were smaller lol

Yeah the only thing that tempted me about the 4s is that it supports "Bluetooth Smart" so can pair with heart rate monitors like the Polar H7.

I'd like to see ANT+ support built-in to the iPhone 5

Yeah, £25 for the Garmin one, be nice to have it built-in though as it makes it easier to get cases etc and means more apps will support it.

(Note: the Garmin ANT+ key doesn't work with Endomondo 😕 )

I'd be interested in ANT+ support, would try running the PowerTap through the phone. Can't see it happening though, they're not exactly fans of other people's standards...

Really Nokia? I wouldn't buy a phone when there is a massive potential they won't be able support it if/when they go bust

Does that even matter? Nokia aren't the next Apple-style customer lock-in, and since smartphones change faster than the 24month contracts, next time around just get a Samsung or HTC or other mfr w8 phone? MS imposes a lot more restrictions on the look+feel and the mfrs won't be customising it like they did with Symbian, Bada, Android etc. to get their own cross-platform consistent UI.

The CycleOps app can connect to PowerTap via the "Fisica Sensor Key" ANT+ dongle.

Fake Steve Jobs has an interesting take on things over on the BBC.

Can't say I agree with all that, but some of it definitely rings true.

I think the article has some very valid points. I do think that Apple are reaching a bit of a tipping point.

Personal opinion is that they are focussing too much on the iphone/ipad family and not focussing enough on some areas that are key to maintaining that family.

There is no doubt that the iPhone/iPad family draws a huge revenue from apps and usage, but who creates those apps? and on what machines do they create it?

The desktop line for Apple was once a large appeal of consumers and professionals. iMacs and MacPros were seen as professional quality tools to work with, especially in graphics. Neither have had signifcant updates in at least a year, and the PC industry is an ever marching technology front.

With Android getting bigger and bigger, along with what seems a cohesive Windows OS/Phone offering, the people that make apps could be looking and asking whats the point of working on what is a step behind hardware, and jumping ship to the likes of Android/Windows Phone. I know that the laptops are generally very very good, but beyond basic, who develops and does full graphics on a laptop?

Less development of apps = less attractive offering compared to Android = less uptake of that product family.

I would like to be proved wrong ... but to me it almost seems like that tipping is almost being reached.

But it is all cyclical isn't it? I am in the creative industry (originally using a drawing board and Rotring pens). I started off on Macs, some time in the mid to late 90s more and more people started to move to PCs then in the early 2000s (probably because of the original iMac) people started to look at Macs again.

No doubt this scenario will be played out again and again until we no longer use computers, instead our very thoughts are transmitted around the globe into the heads of our intended recipients. Or something like that.

Yes - once they were. Those same people now want laptops - except in the most demanding of cases (higher than HD video editing etc) then a MacBook Pro is just as capable as a desktop.

Not long back from a large Drupal web development conference in Munich. There were MacBook Prs **everywhere**

Nevermind new iPhones and iPads, I'd be happy if they could get my iCloud email back up and running as it's been down since yesterday!

....aaaaaand that's why I will still stick to Gmail for my email. Apple do not have the greatest track record with email.

I'm not so sure about that, it's the first problem I've ever had with it!

re: Fake Steve Jobs article.
Surely they look further into the future than 9 months.
Which would mean that Steve Jobs was totally aware of what iPhone 5 would look like and that they planned a mini iPad (if one's coming).

I can't imagine that as soon as he was dead, everyone went "right - now he's gone we can go back to the early-mid nineties Apple that we've all missed so much"

The real problem apple now have is that they have pretty much got the smartphone right, so all they can do is tweak it, people are expecting innovation where its not really possible.

Smartphones are just going to keep getting more powerful and upping the storage, but innovation is required on the services they give access to know, not the phone itself.

They have got it 'right' only because no-one has yet had the vision to make something more 'right'.

re: Fake Steve Jobs article again.
He's also assuming that we know everything about the phone already from leaks.
We'll know if he's right in a few hours.

Interestingly the Apple store homepage is down as they are updating it. Wonder if it will be fixed by the end of the announcement?

@fisha - I am using desktop/laptop machines less and less, in fact for home computing probably less than once a week. The growth is all in mobile devices like phones and tablets. In any case the iMac, MacBook and MacMini are still way ahead of the competition.
