This popped up on my Fb feed yesterday, and had several people demanding that the Vulcan be kept flying...
Does look like a terrific program, I will be recording it for late-night enjoyment. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For them with 7 day EPGs on their video recorders, you can now put a tape in.

I'd hope that as its the last flight they could really rip the arse out of it and do all the stunts its capable of.

I was lucky to be there on the day. I live 5 mins away from Sywell. Had a tip off that the Vulcan was going to be there at a private charity event. I've only got a pocket camera but it was nice to capture some memories of what was (unbeknown to me at the time) the last time I would see the Vulcan in the skies

The vulcan is under (caa) investigation for doing some unauthorised barrel rolls on one of its last flights according to the BBC a few weeks ago.
As it was an old airframe flying under civil rather than military certification it had very tight restrictions on what maneuvers it could do. So no ragging the proverbial off of it.

It was some fairly rubbish still photos arranged in a way that made it look like it could have done a barrel roll. Fairly obvious that it didn't as it would have been witnessed by dozens of people.

But yes, the restrictions on it were getting ever more severe - in it's final few displays it would only go full power very briefly.

Southport 2015 was probably the best of it's more recent runs

Should be a good documentary anyway, Sky box set to record. ๐Ÿ™‚

I find it a little strange that there is so much love for a bomber somewhere there is no appetite for bombing.

Same when there is any aircraft thread, it is mainly filled with military aircraft, they the very tools of war which most here are quick to damn.

To be fair, it's a bomber that did very little actual bombing and that which it did, was completely ridiculous. (I think in its entire career, it killed 2 people by bombing, which probably makes it less deadly than the average Corsa). And ironically something like 35 crew members and bystanders in accidents. XH558 itself never dropped a bomb in anger though it did blow itself up one time IIRC.

But i don't think it's about glorifying a bomber specifically, it's just a cool, noisy, silly plane. All my affection comes from childhood air shows where it was like hearing the voice of god.

Brilliant stuff

Still find it incredible that Britain's aircraft industry was so cutting edge all those years ago. Shame it's all but gone now, but the spending was ludicrous. Really is something the whole nation should be properly proud of.
