Purchased all the wife's birthday presents about an hour ago with it, thanks!

A bollocking will ensue about my online shopping habit as however many packages arrive addressed to me...

Can't see anywhere that states they can end this early? I'm half way through a purchase having had an offer accepted by a seller - do I have to buy?

It is a limited offer....midnight. Oops this could be a PR disaster for them if they didn't make it clear and its one of those 'shit pull it quick its too popular' boo boos.
I assuuming that ebay/paypal are swallowing this and there isn't some 'small print' in the sellers agreement that allows them to recoup it from the seller...

I don't particularly want anything, but I'm sure mrs aracer could find something she'd happily sell me for £250.

Shame it's not working any more...

What now, I clicked buy it now and then the code didn’t work – can I back out?

I am hoping this comes back on as it clealy says midnight and i would not have gone to ebay if it wasn't for the 20%

i guess it would've been an easy way to make 16.50 on a buy / sell auction.

I emailed my seller to explain what happened and they said they'd had loads of similar issues and that ebay technical bods were looking into it (rather than it has simply expired). Hope yet that it may return later today.

I got the email last night but by the time the seller had listed what I wanted the code had stopped working, never mind needed to buy it anyway

The problem with it is you had to commit to buy before you were told the code didn’t work!!!!

Imagine if Tesco announced a one day only 20% off but then cancelled the offer once you’d put all your weekly shop through the checkout! Do you buy it anyway just because you got to the till!! Piss poor this!!!!

I think it was supposed to be a limited offer, only to those they sent it to.
I guess they didn't account for some one, or some people putting it online allowing them to get mugged.

no you didnt, you could add it to your basket rather than click buy it now and apply the code there.

I backed out of the second sale when it applied in the basket total but not in the paypal window on the side.

maybe different on mobile apps.

Nope. You put the code in on the review order page. It even says at the top of the page "You're almost finished. Until you complete checkout, another eBay user may buy this item." I clicked buy it now on a camera but got the 'no balance left' message - I even clicked on the continue button to go to the Paypal to see if the code could be applied there and I still hadn't bought the camera. The Ebay purchase is not finalised until you click 'Pay now' on the Paypal page. So in your analogy you'd be able to see the price you have to pay on the till and if you aren't happy you can still say no.

see..in this case (^^) they need to put the effort in to have single use vouchers, sent out specifically to the intended recipients.

A blanket voucher and the 'hope' that the altruistic attitude of net-wizards is absent, is simply put, lazy!

this may be of use....

i purchased a pair of shoes for £250 but the code didn’t apply, i went through with the purchase anyway and then opened a chat window with eBay support, 58mins waiting time!? left the window open and after getting on with some work came back to computer and noticed that ‘JoeMabel’ had started a conversation. i replied, then nothing.... eventually they replied and:

I have coordinated this to our specialised team and please be informed that we are aware that there was an issue with the voucher that prevented it from being applied and we are currently investigating this. We will be looking into a way to ensure that members like you still get the benefit from the voucher.
JoeMabel
For the meantime, you can make payment in full and we will reimburse your PayPal account with the discount amount for the completed transactions. Please note that it will take up to 14 days to see this reimbursement in your PayPal account.
JoeMabel
With this, may I ask for your details for us to refund the voucher:

all i did was say the code wouldn’t apply and could you please refund my paypal. i guess they are doing this to people who can be arsed to contact support.

It's not hard to create one time discount codes. Let's see if they re activate - no way of contacting support from mobile.

Thanks for the above, I had left the ‘confirm your payment’ tab open and although there is nothing on that window that suggests you can walk away having hit ‘buy it now’ you can just navigate away.

I would imagine a significant number of people had just carried on anyway and bought stuff at full value today having hit buy it now on the understanding they were getting 20% off! Piss poor from Ebay!

£250 shoes?

Could be 1 pair of £250 shoes... or 250 pairs of £1 shoes....

If, after putting in the code, you get a message (in red) at the top of the page saying 'The redemption code can't be used for your purchase', why would people carry on, thinking they were still getting 20% off. Ebay have made a mistake in releasing a discount code which anyone can use and not putting in the T&Cs that it is a limited offer. I wouldn't say it's piss poor, as at all stages you are told what is happening and don't have to continue unless you want to.

I'm not sure if I've missed out on saving £50 or been saved from buying another camera I don't really need.

From the phone call I have just had it seems that I may be getting 20% back at some point between now and mid July as a token of good will.

Will have to wait and see
