Sanding on Gordon Murray’s Escort, now wiring on Binky!

Why do I love this stuff so much!

Damn, now I'm hooked. Takes me back to my days of dropping truck engines into small cars, but nothing like as neat as those guys.

Nick is a bit of a perfectionist. Binky is going to be a work of art when(if?) it is finished.

The attention to detail is incredible, love a tidy bit of wiring!

I would have put some grommets in the holes to protect the wiring though. Thats going to chaff on that  metal.

They'll do that when they rebuild it after paint, it's all going to have to come off at some point before it's finished!

To be honest with their level of attention to detail I didn't think it would be something they would miss.

I imagine they are going to fully wrap the harness anyway...leaving it as a loom of bundled wires with a few cable ties is not very good. They're still in mock up phase. Looking forward to them getting back to some good old fashioned tin bashing. I can imagine they've got something special planned for the re-positioning of the alternator.

Really make me wonder what you are thinking, do you (& half the youtube posters) think they'll really go to this level of construction, then they'll forget something minor like a grommet? ;D

First one I’ve watched all the way through for some reason. I love this so much more than the Escort for a rich guy thread.

"Rich Guy" do you mean Gordon Murray, designer of some of the most famous and successful F1 cars of the 70s and 80s, designer of the McLaren F1? Ha ha.

Yeah, he's probably rich, but it's not the budget that makes it interesting, it's who he is - it's like being asked to paint a picture for Van Gogh.

Yep. I know who he is. Still a bit sterile compared to Binky.

I was disappointed by the standard jap import fog light installation. I can’t believe after all the work gone into it that they just hang one of those off the back. It has two reversing lights so can’t they adapt one of those with a red bulb/lens?

I remember when this tread first popped up, they were on episode 13 or something... I binge watched tehm up to that point, then hit cold turkey!!!

Nice to see the newer episodes popping up, but it's actually fun to revisit older ones too!!

Love it!

still think they are putting something off, you'd have thought they would have a running rolling chassis first before worrying about the interior decor and door cards.

I think you'll find those are mug holders, thank you very much.

Klunk* maybe they think that doing this at the end would be very frustrating when all anyone will want to see is it running, not the fiddly crappy stuff that make a for a properly completed project.

It's getting bloody close to being finished! (maybe)

* Also I think Mr Blackhurst has very little time for doing things they way the 'everyone else' expects stuff to be done

I enjoyed that more than the last one or 3, but it really feels like its dragging and that they are dragging it out. All the early ones with mind blowing levels of fabrication, mechanical problem solving and vehicle dynamics type knowledge were great. The recent ones, yes its imprssiv to see the level of detail they go to but now..well...I'm jut not so impressed by door cards and centre consoles. move it on, get it painted, get it finished!

Little bit more like it. I agree it's been a bit slow over the last couple of episodes, there is only so much electrical loom and routing work I can watch, but it seems we're past that phase and heading more towards there finishing of the initial mock up. Then they'll be taking it apart and prepping it for final assembly. I'm looking forward to the refurb of the engine and transmission...I can't imagine they're just going to give the rusty engine and suspension a bit of spit and polish and bolt it in, hopefully it'll be a full on strip down, refurb and incorporation of a few choice trick parts.
