Yep, goes through cycles, fine then it can go through weeks of being slow at peak time and then weeks of it failing altogether at peak times. Often have to reboot the router to force it to reconnect. Seems to be coming out of a bad period at the moment and becoming more stable again. All that said we live 4 or 5 miles from the exchange on old copper cables. The exchange has been local loop unbundled though so at the exchange we are using talktalk equipment rather than BTs. Still the same old cack copper wires though. Have thought about changing but I think we'll get the same level of service from any other provider as it's all the same wires. At £ 22 a month and all calls it's just about bearable.

The wife and I were just discussing how our Talk Talk broadband had improved lately. This is based on the fact that we can now watch the iPlayer at any time, rather than having to wait until stupid o'clock to get the bandwidth. Certainly seems to be better than Tiscali was...

we had tiscali for years and never had a problem, they've been bought out by talk talk, its cheaper now but been interesting in terms of reliabilty these last few months :-/

we were on Tiscali for ages. we're about 2 miles from the exchange. We were on 0.5GB broadband, asked if we could upgrade. Tiscali told us the best we'd get would be 1GB

We're on Virgin Cable broadband now.

Been on Tiscali for years and now Talk Talk.

Never had a problem and consistently get 6Mbps download speeds and an A rated line.

(Try speedtest.net and pingtest.net to test your line speed and quality)

I'm with Tiscali (now TT). Started off at 6meg, slowly but surely dropped actual transfer speeds (still syncs at the same speed, 7400kbps) and now I get 0.5 meg at any time that's not stupid-oclock. Last time it took many phone calls and emails to get anything sorted, this time I'm going to resort to documenting my poor service on a web site and twittering it, lets see how long they take to fix it.
