Looking at getting rid of my van , just wondering
how much you get for weighing them in?
You get £600000 scrap value per rat infested ship apparently.....
Weighed in some old trestles yesterday
125kg made me about 18 quid.
Which is about 144/tonne
Varies almost daily, last lot of light shearing (mild steel) was the same as Wrightyson, around 140/t. Expect a lot less for anything they have to do any work on ie stripping and separating van bits.
An old trick was to leave a hose running in it for an hour or so, fill up fuel tank, seats, footwell etc. Best if you have you're own hi ab lorry for this.
dropped off some mixed metals the other week at £125/t
In 2010 I think I got £180/t 🙁
Depends what you mean by 'weigh in' are you going to take it to a vehicle dismantler or weigh it in as scrap yourself?
The scrap value of the metal not the only useful value to know as theres a lot of your van that isn't metal - so what you'll get in scrap (£100 and something per ton of metal) will be offset by the landfill tax you'll need to pay on the glass, carpets,tyres, plastics, seats etc which is £70 something per ton plus the scrappies margin for dealing with it. A scrap metal merchant isn't going to pay anywhere near the same rate/ton for a vehicle as they would for other metal. Plus you'd need to depollute (drain all the oil, fuel, coolants and brake fluids and dispose of those somewhere) before it arrives at the yard.
You also need to know what you need to do to get a certificate of destruction otherwise you remain liable for the vehicle even if it doesn't exist anymore and can incur some pretty hefty penalties
What van is it ?
My mates been offered 220 quid as drive in scrap for a lwb semi hi transit.....
Not bad given its 80% rust 🙂
