Hi

Need some advice what would be better to use - a post hole digger or the auger type? Need to dig abt 2 feet down to sit the 6 posts for the pergola.

and any other useful tips for erecting pergolas will be appreciated

Ta

Use these all the time, 5 mins per hole 🙂

EDIT: actually not this one but the same but super heavy duty.

Make sure the posts are straight, probably better with 2 people, but i've done it on my own before.

Fencing bar/railway spike and shove holers to remove soil, what I use for putting strainer posts in for fencing, 4 foot deep hole not too much of an issue

Edit, shove holers like that above

Sui thanks for the offer probably easier to rent from HSS as unlikely to head towards your way even though I'm outside Guildford

Flip thanks for the tip have bought one of theose post levels so hopefully it doesn't end up looking like the leaning tower of pisa!

I use a nice heavy drain spade and bar if needed. Those double shovel things are okay if your in nice soft soil but ime I don't rate them much.
