I'm looking to swap a traditional vented HW cylinder for an unvented (Megaflo) one which I already have.
The existing cylinder is in a good location (ground floor right next to rising main with easy access to outside for overflow pipe.
There's no central heating (holiday house with electric heating) involved so it's merely a case of removing the old cylinder and connecting up the inlet, outlet, overflow and electrical connections.
Roughly what sort of price should I expect to pay for labour?

is there any other work to do on the cold water cistern? is it near the existing cylinder etc, easy to core drill the wall for discharge pipework?

Do you mean the header tank Bear? If so, no. The existing HW cylinder is in a cupboard right next to the rising main and the existing pipe work going upstairs and to the header tank.
Exterior wall forms the back if the cupboard and is block so easily drilled. There is a drain right outside also.
To my untrained eye it looks like you drain the header tank, drain/remove the old cylinder, take a feed from above the rising main stop tap to the megaflo, add the overflow and connect the output to the existing g pipe work.
The house is upside down with the main bathroom right next door to the 'airing cupboard'
I would also like to feed hot water to an upstairs (currently electric) shower and was presuming the old feed from the header tank could be used for this purpose.

Sounds straight forward enough, I expect someone decent to want a day or two's money plus a bit for materials.

They might get it done in a day, but also if it runs over and takes half the next day they are going to charge you a couple of days I suspect. Also as it is something that you have to be deemed competent to install there are costs to recover against training etc.
It will also depend on where you are in the country.

I'd probably charge £160ish, sounds really straight forward and realistically, probably be done in a morning.

Do it yourself !

It's unvented, so not a DIY job

If its a proper unvented, then it's going to need a pressure reducer, pressure relief, temperature and pressure relief piped through a tundish and outside to a safe place.

Funky - drain down CWSC and hot water cylinder, remove both, drill wall, alter pipework for new cylinder, link out water main to low pressure supplies, test and commission in a morning?

don't see why not, no coil, no 2 port valves to wire up, minimal pipework

lunch is at 1. 😉

not sure about minimal pipework, needs to be clipped and soldered as on display, joints neatly wiped etc.

If you can do that in half a day then do you want a job?!!

cylinder swaps are a good days work. just because you have a cylinder doesnt mean thats it for materials, last week on a straight swap i used just over 50 quids worth of fittings and pipework on a reasonably straight forward swap..

as a pointer check your house insurance for 'hot work' clauses..
