Passed my test today and looking into insurance for my 1967 Royal Enfield. 350 cc
I only plan to use her on occasional day trips and certrainly no more than 5000 miles pa.
A policy ghat includes breakdown might also be an idea :@)
Carole Nash.
Carole Nash are worth a shot - they are usually quite good.
However, this year they wanted £140 from me fully comp. I went to bikerider.com and found the same high level of cover for £86 so well worth searching around.
Try Footman James. I used to use them for my 750 Turbo and they were miles cheaper, especially if you were in an affiliated owners club.
I used Devitt some 18 months ago, cheap and good.
Adian Flux aren't bad for classic cars. I imagine bikes might be the same.
Check what you get in the cover - carole nash include breakdown recovery and legal assistance - some others do not.
I have never been able to beat carole nash for price for the same cover. Others have been cheaper but for lessor cover
Carole Nash are a bit more understanding of odd bikes than most, Adrian Flux are supposed to be good for that as well.
Mine is a bugger to insure since the basic bike's worth about £750 tops but the parts bolted to it have a shop value of about 10 times that... So standard insurance with "return to manufacturer spec" cover is completely worthless. Same's true of a lot of classics and streetfighters and the like. Carole Nash do me an agreed value policy for £5000, for pretty much the same as everyone else would charge for the basic service which would pay out about 1/10th of that. Which is nice of them.
Bit of an aside but a mate of mine had a show-winning GSXR 7/11 streetfighter stolen last year. He said "It's worth £10000". His insurance said "Well, it's 20 year old bike, and the engine's been replaced for some reason, and all of the fairings are missing... It's worth about 10p" He said "It had carbon fibre Dymags, Ohlins suspension and a full titanium exhaust!" They said "Oh, well, we'll value it as if it had the original parts. Except for the fairing and the engine obviously. How he laughed.
