I'm a man of wealth and taste..

OK that's debatable, on both counts.. ask anyone who knows me :).

I am however, a guy who's quite fond of bicycles.

My brother put me on to this place, drewd (*waves*) and I recently Dan from Newark way, lovely chap who sold me a load of his old kit.

Basically, a few years ago I bought a Charge Plug 3 2015 ex demo bike from Evans, and it re-kindled my love of cycling.  Before that I'd been a BMXer, then learned to drive, then got fat, got a Mrs, never really did much riding as we went everywhere in the car.

Then, when I was working at a local college the wonders of the C2W scheme happened, and I bought a bike.  Infact I bought two, first was a Boardman Team FS Pro, the early grey ones..  Nice enough but I always felt a bit dissapointed with it, then I got a Bianchi hybrid which was great..  I should probably point out at this stage that I live right near Rutland Water.  Although there's some good riding round here, much of it can be done on a road bike, and a flat bar hyrid worked ace for what I needed, and I had the Boardman as backup.

Fast foward a few years, and I was chatting to Drew about his gravel bike.. these weren't really a thing back in 2015, but the idea of a steel frame drop bar I could throw down a cheeky trail really appealed to me, so I pulled the trigger, and I was back in the saddle a lot more regularly.  I sold the Bianchi to Drew, and I kept the Boardman for a bit, but it wsan't getting used, I enjoyed the gravel bike more, and belived it'd be my life bike.. then I started to explore more trails, more bridleways, and the skinny tyres in mud just didn't cut it.  I had to get another mountain bike.

During this period, I also started to tweak and work on friends bikes, and got back into my BMX's, mostly mid and old skool stuff.  It got a bit out of hand and I ended up with a lot more bikes than I had space.  Something had to give.  So, I started CogWombles.

Basically, I was picking up abandoned, ex police auction/recovered and scrap bikes, and building good ones out of them, just to pass a bit of time. Because I was donating the proceeds of this to local good causes, my name started to get about, and before I knew it, I was doing two or three a week, because people were litterally giving me the stuff out their garages.

A lot of that was crap, like proper BSO's, and got broken for what useful parts they'd yeild, but the odd good bike came in, got done, and got people into riding again.  All good stuff.

Oh yeah.. my own bikes.. So using the C2W scheme again, I decided I needed a mountain bike, so I bought the most sensible one I could.. steel, single speed, 27+ rubber.. yeah I bought a 2017 Kona unit :D, started to throw it around the local trails and bridleways, and then realised that although I love the idea of a single speed bike, I don't love the reality of it, specifically my fat carcass and my dodgy knees don't like it.

So I did the sensible thing, and what we'd all do faced with my situation, I put gears on it..

Actually, I didn't.. I bought a used bike and built that up instead.. So enter bicycle of use number three into my stable.. (remember that Mrs I mentioned?, yeah we're now married, we've got a 3 bed mid terrace house with no shed, and 4 cats.. and although I have a workshop unit, it's 6 miles from my house)... So yeah, Sarah's getting a bit annoyed at me at this point, but N+1 right?..

So, now I own, an Orange Aero, 1x11, Toora forks, and stuff..

A Kona Unit, 1x1, Brooks C17 saddle, HT Flow Pedals

A 2015 Charge Plug 3, Vitoria tubeless 38c tyres, Superstar Nano pedals.

And in my non usable stable

PK Ripper Loop

Dyno Compe

GT Pro Race XL

Falcon Harrier (updating to 700c wheels and making a commuter)

Some old Raliegh stuff 😀

Most importantly

TJ or THM?

and no googling, if you don't know, guess. It's a bit like the Matrix at this point (you can also choose red or blue if you wish, we can assign a colour to each fairly easily).  Then, based on your answer, it'll define how the rest of your STW life pans out.

I own an Orange Air 0 too - first time I've ever seen someone else with one of the same colour.  Mine doesn't really get ridden any more, but I love it too much to sell it and in a few years time it will be perfect for my son.

Thanks for the warm welcome, the sarcastic comments, and the questions of which I'll freely admit I've no idea what you're on about :).  And I'm glad a few of you picked up the reference regarding the topic title and start of my post.

Garden.. yeah it's a mess and it lacks a shed.  I'm going to build the shed so I can get a decent mower in there because 110 feet of garden being mowed with a knock off flymo isn't something I do regularly.  The lawn needs work and so does the fence, the slabs, and a ton of other stuff.  I'll get round it it, only been in for a year 😉

I think I got the Mrs, then got fat.. but we were engaged for a fair while before we got married.

I'll go blue, simply because I have two blue ones and a red one, and use the blue ones more.

Oh dear, I'm not sure Mr Womble has a complete grasp on the seriousness of a tidy lawn - it's only a hop, skip and jump from there to ignoring valve alignment.

Dibnah was the man, that's the only Fred I care a jot about I'm afraid.

The lizards killed Diana or something, and Mortlach Singleton from Dufftown..

As for the grass, if anyone wants to come and sort it for me, you're welcome to.  It's very much a work in progress though, it wasn't in a good way when we moved in, and I want to pull the lot up and do it properly, but there are other things that are taking priority at the moment. 🙂

This might sound a bit odd, but after someone tried to nick my Ripper I never post pictures of that particualr bike up, or any of the ones in my workshop, as I'm not a fan of giving up details of where it lives.

I don't own an audi :(, I've got an S124 Merc if that counts?, lovely 2.0 in maroon, which is having bits welded back on, and was saved from the scrap heap.

I also own a W124..

received_1375476439182019 by davedorson, on Flickr

And a Leon Cupra (you can see the sorry looking S124 behind it)

FB_IMG_1509544603741 by davedorson, on Flickr

Any many, many other cars. 🙂

I'm very precious about that bike, it's a bit of a carpet queen too I'm afraid to say, as it cost me far too much to build.  As such it's phyically chained to my workshop wall, and only occasionally gets taken down if I'm taking it to an event for a group ride.

What’s the black and green Raleigh with the cissy bar and the bust speedo?

I like that.

The bars are off a chopper, the saddle is an old white raleigh one with the skin taken off it, the rest of the bike is a Raleigh something or other.  It's dark green with vivid metallic guards and chain cover, I want to say it's a record, but it's not because that's a racer, it's like a scaled down Superbee, but the name escapes me.

If you want it, you're welcome to buy it off me.  I got it on a whim, and don't really like it, it does need a good going over though, front cones are loose, wheels are buckled, needs brake cables etc.

Hi mate!

Just remember the chat forum can be very Darwinian in its nature. Don't take it personal.

Secondly  if you voted Leave I already dislike you. Nothing personal. 🙂

Joking aside....

The chat forum is great for an argument. They can be epic.

The forum can also be genuinely incredible when one of our own needs a bit of help with life. Honestly, incredible.

The bike forum...

That widget you want to fit that came off a 1947 Bulgarian single speed you want to fit to your 2018 Spec Enduro?

Someone will have done it and taken pictures as a guide on how to do it too.

It's wonderfully niche. Best bike forum on the web in my opinion.

I'm also massively thick skinned, and find Internet forums utterly hilarious at times, especially when it all kicks off over something ridiculously mundane and pointless as what colour pants you chose to wear today (pink by the way..)

I've just checked downstairs and I'm definitely not a Mrs anyone 😊.  Bikes are not for sale.. well some are.  The nice ones aren't and neither is the 20.  And believe it or not that pumpkin on the table with the charge in shot is a globe courgette that we left too long, as it was growing inside the spinach and we'll hidden.  We ended up cooking it kike a stuffed marrow and it was lovely.
