I am constantly astounded by the brilliance of many of the photographs on here but I do wonder how many of you carry tripods wherever you go - keep it up though I love the night shots

I do wonder how many of you carry tripods wherever you go - keep it up though I love the night shots
Scenery and long exposures, yep! But all of my latest night-time shots were very carefully hand held. Amazing what modern Image Stabilisation, a full-frame sensor and noise reduction software can do! Most of those at the fringe were shot at ISO 2000-4000 f/4 1/8 or 1/10 shutter speed. There were plenty misses as well as the 'hits'!
I'm constantly surprised as to what that camera can do.

Aye, that would be better, but my trusty 5DII seems to do well enough. But i agree that a more old fashioned form of IS in the form of a tripod is indeed needed for a 2 min exposure! 😆

Cheers! Although it was taken a while ago now, I remember also having a film camera with me that day. I must dug out the negs, as I recall that although the 5D was sharper, I definitely preferred the colours of the film...
EDIT: Indeed I did. This film one is SOOC, but a repost, so I'll keep it small. Interesting to see the two together though, as the 5D one^^^ was edited

again wow, great pics.
interesting point made by user-removed, about accessibility of photography, but ultimately a good photo is a good photo due to composition etc, it's just that pros get a higher hit rate than amateurs (and perhaps have a more narrative vision), good amateur shots are often just luck, but no less worthy. Still it must make it hard to be a pro photographer now.
I'm no pro, and am still trying to work out some kind of narrative position, and I think I do get the odd lucky shot 🙂
