That's been doing the rounds for years.

Plod will have looked at it and found the 'evidence' a bit shakey.

Funny the Beeb dragging it up to make themselves look like the upholders of the law.

If he wants to increase his popularity he should reinvent himself in the manner that Jennifer Lopez did.

My opinion is that i find it hard to believe that no one there knew he returned and that they are all unaware of the events that happened

Perhaps a joint enterprise charge would help with memory recall?

Allegedly.
Of course, of course. That goes without saying.

No need it is indeed a strange case and you have made no claims as to the participants [unlike me]
I know to preface it with my opinion as its hard to prove that it is indeed not my opinion and I have made no claim as to whether it is true or false simply that its my opinion 8)

Waste of oxygen is that lad!

One of the gifted songwriters of our time. A flawed genius. And the fact that he'll probably be dead before long makes some of his work even more poignant.

Shibboleth +1

I love the Sun readers pub banter you generally get about him.

"He's a bloody waste of space, smackhead etc etc. Whats he ever bloody done eh?"

"Have you ever listened to the Libertines?"

"Erm... no..."

Basically this seems to amount to they don't play his stuff on Radio 2, like that Snow Patrol stuff you like so much, so therefore it must be rubbish 🙄

"The truth will out."

It probably already has, and this - like every single other 'conspiracy theory' - is just a load of old cobblers!

In opinion only. Other opinions are available. 🙂

"Have you ever listened to the Libertines

Yep. Very average. Forgettable. Unremarkable. Nothing new. Pick one of those

One of the gifted songwriters of our time

Whilst its not been a great decade for music it is surely not been that bad has it ?

Binners to call this a conspiracy is silly

Have a read of the link

He argued with doherty , he was evicted , he returned, no one noticed him at all as he crept back in and silently jumped to his death in a manner that looks like he was thrown and no one saw anything

I find it hard to believe that this account is actually accurate whatever you think of his music.

Nothing new? Hmmm... Well you could say that about any musician, even the oh-so-trendy dickwads trying to invent new genres like dubstep in order to showcase their "creativity".

Or you can look at the sheer poetry in his lyrics, the abstraction, the beautiful way he splits couplets. Check out "Music When The Lights Go Out" as an example... His genius is the apparent simplicity, but the structure is far from simple.

I find his songs just keep growing, something new every listen. He's the only songwriter in recent years that can give me goosebumps when I recognise another clever twist in a song I've heard hundreds of times.

Then look at his Babyshambles work, much written whilst in prison. "Down in Albion", a stunningly wistful reminisce and "Pentonville" itself, maybe not groundbreaking but brilliant in its own right.

He'a a pretty talented guy musically, regardless of whether you think he's an idiot or not. For sure, if I decided I didn't like music made by idiots, half of my music collection would disappear.

I watched the programme on BBC last night about this (think it was an excerpt in Newsnight) and there's definitely no conspiracy theory and there is 100% a case to be answered. I really don't think that much is in dispute.

I've always thought of Docherty as a nice guy but with big problems, but I have to say that he did not come across well in the Newsnight investigation, even when taking into account his addiction problems.

I don't think anyone's suggesting he isn't a nob. He is. But he's a (maybe annoyingly) talented little sod

As Duggan pointed out, if we only listened to music made by people who weren't dicks, where would that leave us.....

I have no interest in what he's like as a person but his music is really very average and extremely derivative. He seems to be one of the massively overrated artists of recent times - usually by people who buy into the whole 'flawed genius/junkie poet' persona.

Edit: thekingisdead put it more succinctly. 🙂

I love some of his music, Libertines/Babyshambles are tinged with genius, I even tend to enjoy watching rock & roll antics, but I lost 99% respect for him when I watched an interview where he went off camera for a couple of minutes (to shoot up) and came back to rejoin the band - and promptly squirt the camera lens with fresh blood from his syringe.

Given the circumstances, how anyone could think this chap genuinly decided to re-enter the party like a silent ninja and kill himself within 57 seconds is beyond me.
Manslaughter at best.

But PeDO guilty? He doesnt have the strength. The 'roided bodyguard however?..

I'd think that'd probably be a pointless exercise fella. You either like his stuff or you don't. I do personally, but I do agree that, in general, he's a complete numpty

Oh go on then

Let the mocking commence 😉

Oh... just to point out... that last one is pretty sweary... so if that offends you.....

I for one think 'don't look back into the sun' and 'cant stand me now' are easily two of the best songs written this century.
Would both be on my desert island 1000

F@C$ Forever would be a conteder too.

Some of the others are a bit beyond me though

Some would see him as a persecuted, misunderstood musical genius and romantic rake shrouded in profundity. What I think - he’s a whiney self obsessed bore, whose music and lyrics are totally lost on me.

Neither I nor my music collection is going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

... it’s all subjective in the end.

He definintely isn't a 'roided bodyguard', despite the fact that's what the media call him. Doherty could never afford a full time bodyguard.

He is clearly useful to Doherty in other ways though, in a mutual relationship kind of way.

Mr Doherty appealed to his minder, Johnny Jeannevol, known as Johnny Headlock, and to Mr Roundhill to come to his aid.

Mr Roundhill says that he tried to distract Blanco by setting light to his tweed cap, which was resting on a table

I would have thought having a minder called Johnny Headlock would have made it easy to get someone to leave without having to set fire to his tweed cap..

AS with all conversations that involve people saying:

but his music is really very average and extremely derivative

the stock response I favour is:

Play us one of your songs then Grum, they must be really, really good.

To be fair, grum isn't a professional musician and nobody's claiming he's the best songwriter of the last decade.

OK, fair enough, but, he must be able to give us a critique then, with examples, of why they are derivative and very average?

BTW, not a huge Docherty fan at all, can't stand me now is a great song, but it annoys me when people dismiss music as shit with no explanation, just because they don't like it

you just answered your own question twice then

I think I know this doeshe not like it because

his music is really very average and extremely derivative

Anyway thank god we are not actually discussing the death of a person in mysterious circumstances where doherty running from the scene, his minder confessing and experts saying he was dropped not jumped.

Lets get the importan issues dealt with

Grum give us a song please or a very long critique using the harvard reference system 😕

Yeah you're right, it's incredibly important that an internet forum discusses and no doubt comes up with the explanation to this case, maybe we could sell our services to the police as well.

Where would the world be without STW and it's incredible crime solving powers???

It's subjective though is it not?
I think most modern pop music played on radio 1 is shit but couldn't break it down and give you legitimate reasons for this, other than; well it's shit!
You don't need to be a musical genius to have an opinion.

If I hear one more *ing Flo Rider song I'm going to drive my car into a *ing wall. AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH

It's not a great argument is it. So, unless you're a great politician you can't criticise politicians, unless you're an amazing footballer you can't have an opinion on a football team?

Also, funnily enough, I am a professional musician (sort of - I earn about half my living working for a music education charity running music workshops etc) - I don't really write songs though. 🙂

Notice I didn't actually say his music was shit - I said it was very average and very derivative.

Is there an exact specification for 'good' music?

If not, then all anyone can really say is whether they like it or not, not that it's good or bad.

Have any actual accomplished and well-respected musicians/song-writers said that Pete Doherty is one of the most talented song-writers of the decade, or is that just what some people on the internet who don't know anything about writing songs/music think of him?

😀
