Curious as to why the planes are sat on the ground for hours on end, seemingly without anyone going onboard!?

I always thought air-time was extremely valuable and any time a plane stayed on the ground was lost profit.

I imagined cleaners swooped on the plain as soon as all passengers departed, plane was re-stocked, re-fueled, baggage loaded and sent on it's way as quickly as possible. 🙂

Short haul eg Easy Jet / Ryan Air - that is true. Long haul, they spend hours waiting for their next slot - time zones etc mean you can't just take off and land asap as you'll arrive at the other end when the airport is closed etc.

^^That would maybe make them deal with things like this a bit better.
