Hi all
Looking to release some bolts on a multi fuel stove, obviously heated and rusted. What's the best penertrating/ release agent you've used?
Plus gas or just threaten them with a can of full fat coke .
Hmmm looking to swap blanking plate and flue outlet, as I said has been in pretty hostile environment
They will either shear off or come loose anyway, so the choice of oil is irrelevant.
Heat tends to work better than oil.
Plus gas, the liquid. Not aerosol version
Then wire brush, soak and repeat
Heat as well, i have a crem brulee flamer that gets chuffing hot, but with a narrow, short flame plus its adjustable but full power is the only setting i use
Tbh, you might just be better off to have at the nuts with a hacksaw/junior hacksaw / angle grinder
The time and faff andb then probable failure of the stud leaving you with a bigger headache
Then wire brush and oil the stud and refit copper alloy nuts
This only applies if they are captive mind, otherwise bin em and fit new
Screwfix cheap penetrating oil and lots of it then choose your tools
Small spanner
Failed?
Large Spanner
Failed?
Wrench
Failed?
Impact drill
Failed?
Hit it with the Duckin NG blow torch. Liquid cannot be seized
This stuff is amazing - and that's from someone who has owned and spannered old Landrovers, Volvo's and a rusty Transit. It works in conjunction with a few expletives shouted at the offending fastener.

Another vote for Plus Gas.
And a cup of tea while it works. Sometimes have to leave overnight in extreme cases.
Plus gas liquid x whatever.
If it can undo a drop link that's good enough for me!
Screwfix cheap penetrating oil
Worked good for me last time I had a badly seized bolt.
Bought some crack and freeze stuff as well but didn't need it.
Ducking NG
Swarfega Duck Oil yeah?
RP90, bloody brilliant stuff. Toolstation has it iirc
50/50 mix of ATF and acetone out-perfomed all commercial penetrating oils in an independent test.
I have found diesel oil to be really good with this stuff
Ian
ATF? Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms? Sounds like a fun afternoon. Or that stuff you put in gearboxes?
Straight to heat for me
ATF = automatic transmission fluid.
I've heard that acetone and ATF mix is good before, but I use Plus Gas as it's convenient.
I also agree heat works well. I'd add Irwin Bolt Grips to the list of tools should everything else fail. They'll chew up the fixings but if you've already damaged them you'll probably want to replace them anyway.
