following on from Log burner discussions, has anyone installed a pellet stove ?
how about one of those reverse airconditioning units?(Air pump)

we havequite a large open area in the house where we have knocked through, and I am lookinginto enconomical ways of heating it .

Don't know about air pumps but pellet stoves are super efficient and look great IMO. MCZ makes some nice ones although they're 3-5 times more expensive than a log burner. much easier to control - you can set them up to start/stop on a timer. works like a central heating boiler in that respect. they blow hot air out and the hopper will hold enough for a day's fuel.
