I really need a classic smartish winter jacket so I thought a pea coat would do the trick.
Does anyone on here own one? How warm are they?

I have an old one, proper heavy wool not lightweight frippery and it is lovely and warm - check the thickness of the coat and that should tell you if it going to let the cold in.

Donkey jackets have the shiny black rhubarb on the back.
I got one last year..nice and warm in winter it was too. As said, just check the thickness/quality and you'll be fine.

me dad had one of them when he worked down the pit.
no really - he did, its just that his had NCB across the back!
Their baggies look at bit on the long side. No mention of what type of chammy either.
