Can anyone recommend an online service/software to optimise my PC performance?

I know it's an old chestnut, but I really don't think I'm getting the performance I would expect from the Spec. I recently (well last year) built a new PC based around an AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core chipset with 4GB RAM. running XP Pro SP3.

I find it takes longer to boot than my pidly netbook running XP Home, and often I hear the CD/DVD drive cycling (not spinning up, but moving the laser/lens through its motion) before it executes a command.

I've not got a lot of extraneous software on it; as I installed XP from scratch it doesn't have lots of guff.

Any thoughts; sorry for the numpty/eedgit question.

Chris

Have you set it to boot from the CD/DVD drive rather than the hard drive?
