Dumb question, but I'm due a refund into my Paypal account, now the card which I originally used for the payment has been removed from the account due to being cancelled, so will the refund just go onto my account balance or does it need to go onto a card?

Refunds go back into your paypal balance- when you pay, the money goes from your card to Paypal then the seller.
