Just got an email from paypal to say a £249.96 transaction has been completed, not authorised by me!

Reported to paypal...passwords etc changed, what now? Any advice?

The purchases where made through ebay, so a postal address is available. Anyone in Dagenham, Essex want to pay a "Sean Hazell" a visit?

Did you check your account? Did the transaction definitely take place or is it a scam mail just trying to get you to click on a link that looks like a paypal site so they can get your password details.

Dugenam? In Essex? Don't think there is any such place. And nor does Google Maps.

Sorry, Dagenham!

Yeh, the transactions took place, logged into my account on another pc, not via link in email, changed passwords and opened the case in their resolution centre.

Did you go to the Paypal direct to change you password or did you click on the email. I get these email every now and then, to date none of them have been true.

Edit: Ah!

Dagenham maybe? I had a weird one the other day with PayPal - ordered a Domino's pizza and paid with paypal. The delivery address in paypal came up as some place in Ireland.

I checked my account and changed password quick smart, and have emailed PayPal to ask what was going on. Nothing back yet (this was Friday - bad form PayPal).

It took me the best part of an hour on the phone going through several different people at PayPal's end and then at least ten, maybe more, emails to resolve a similar issue I had a few years ago.

Good luck!

No, PayPal at CRC was always safe.

This usually happens when people use the same email and password on paypal as on other sites.

Good luck sorting it...

That never happened, there was suspected links with cards.

Similar thing happened to me ages ago, was very odd, someone hijacked my PayPal account (totally, including changing to his bank account details to pay the fees), then listed a Kubota digger on eBay. All got resolved.

and/or have password sniffing malware on the PC they use to log in to Paypal or elsewhere. edit: and/or man in the middle via wifi, and/or...

edit2: so they may potentially know all the new passwords too 😉

Facebook as a 'new device' notification when you log in on something you don't usually use. Is there any feature on paypal you can enable as it would email you when a new device is used.

Just in case folk didn't know...
For a bit of extra security on Paypal, you can enter a mobile number on your account, to which a 6 digit access code is sent by text as part of the login process. You need to enter that code to complete your log-in.
You can only bypass it by answering a series of security questions.

I had a 'subscription' added to my PayPal account, 3x £600.23. Ouch! PayPal called me to tell me before I even noticed, they froze my account etc and i got the cash back within 3 days. For once they were actually pretty good. Not been the case for all my dealings with them though!

Glad it's sorted.

Once the dispute was opened it didnt take long for paypal to decalre them as unauthorised. One of the 4 transactions refunded, the sum of the other three deposited in my paypal account. Happy with the outcome, good swift work on paypals behalf!

Does anyone know what further action paypal takes? They have a name and a postal address, would it be reported to the local authorities?
