We're getting the patio redone at IHN Towers, and I want to make sure I'm going to order the right amount of pavers.

It's currently made up of a few separate bits of patios with connecting paths, all paved in 600m slabs:

Patio 1 - 4.2m x 3.0m
Patio 2 - 4.8m x 3.0m
Patio 3 - 2.4m x 1.8m
2xPaths - 3.0m x 0.6m
1xPath - 3.6m x 0.6m

The pavers we want come in these packs:

Am I right in think two packs won't be enough, and three will leave quite a lot left over?

I don’t know anything about this, but going solely by the areas I think you’d be halfway between 2 and 3 packs. Then you might have to consider the efficiency of your laying? - and 3 might be so much more than you might at first think?

That was so unhelpful I don’t know why I posted it. Sorry.

No problem, if only three quarters of the posters on here were so honest 🙂

Ta. I suppose what I was thinking was, that without better knowledge I would, like you, have got 3 packs.

A quick calc says you've got 37 square metres to cover, and each pack is 15 square metres. It looks like you could order individual slabs of the various sizes in addition to the project pack. As there's 13 of each in the 15 square metre pack, the additional 7 square metres is just under half - so 6 of each individual slab is a total of £250, and 7 of each is £290 in total. So it seems to make sense to buy two project packs plus enough individuals to cover the whole area, rather than three project packs

As you've got mixed sizes, you'll need to plan the patios (the paths will simple as 600mm wide). Have a look at https://www.pavingexpert.com/random01 to plan them out to work out what sizes and quantities you want for the extras over and above he two project packs. If you want to play with the layout yourself, I used drawio which is a free diagramming tool to play around with layouts

Are they all going to be laid whole with no cutting required? If you need to start cutting any then there'll be a degree of wastage. Also, if the area is not one big space then your ability to use the mix of sizes to achieve a pattern that avoids long joint lines will be less and it may be helpful to have a complete third pack you can pick sizes from.

If it were me I'd get the three packs. One can usually find things to use up spares on in a garden - paths in beds, things to put pots on etc.

Hopefully there won't need to be much, if any cutting (there's bound to be a bit though).

For the sake of an extra hundred quid or so I think I'll go with the three packs, that way we've got some scope to maybe widen a couple of the paths too.

Now I need to do a plan, gulp...
