OK, so you wanna have a good time, get drunk, have a boogie, BBQ, whatever. That's great.
But why do people start so late, then stay up to 3am or so?
Why not start 4 hours earlier, get to bed at 11, good nights sleep, have the whole next day instead of staying in bed?
I've never understood the mentality, why stay up all night?

8pm to 3am = 7 hours. To get 7 hours in ending at 11pm it'd mean drinking during work!

I also tend to find that once I've had a few pints I perk up and feel really awake

6pm - get home

8pm - out the house after shower/shave/getting ready/snacking/few beers

10pm - finish dinner

4am - leave club

5am - get home (or elshwere)

Continue partying either with friends or whoever's bed you've ended up in

7am - sleep

Well said leggyblonde!!!

3am is only half the night! Some people actually start early afternoon and finish at 8am. ๐Ÿ˜€

Maybe if there were 36 hours in a day people could start earlier. Some people have busy lives.

Personally I try n start early, otherwise I am screwed for the rest of the weekend, as I dont have time to sleep any extra!

No, you're missing the point. I'm not complaining. I'm not saying I've not done it. I'm just asking why! And it's nothing to do with age, I've always felt like this.

Why - cos thats when the party is! If a party finishes at 3 am its rubbish. Round here pubs shut at 1 am. clubs at 4. Want to party on for an hour or two afterwards? 3 am is early.

I like to have my dinner before I go out - so dinner at 8pm - pub by 10, few drinks till closing time........................

Born middleaged where we?

If people are having a good time then why end it early? I'd much rather chill out for a few hours at home before i go to a party/BBQ etc than spend a day at work, get home and have to rush off out straight away!
I do hate wasting half of the next day in bed though!

I reckon you have to accept that a big night is an activity in its own right, and takes up most of the next day. It isn't compatible with having a plan to go riding or whatever. This is why I practically never go out. That and being middle aged. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think people just generally like having a good time and if you're out enjoying yourself why decide to end the night and go home to bed just because of what it says on the clock. Who care's what time it is ? sleep when tired, day or night doesn't really matter.

I sometimes get home from work and go to bed for an hour or so before I do anything else 'cause I'm a bit knackered to from a late night the day before.

I love sleeping, but not when there's a party on !

Yeah, but WHY?
If you're parting for 6 hours from midnight to 6am, why not start at 3pm the previous afternoon and finish at 11? That's 2 hours more!

When the children arrived, I stopped having all-nighters, so tend to stick to PPs party timeline.

It's a real bugger, no matter how late you stay up boozing and yarning, the kids still get up at 7ish and still expect to be fed and looked after.

Enjoy it while you can, you crazy cats...

No I dont mean I would party for 36 hours... There is not enough time in the day to do usual weekend stuff, go for a ride, tidy house, shopping, see a couple of friends, take dogs for a walk, etc... & a BBQ/Party finishing up by 11pm... Not enough hours in the day.

If it was a 36 hour party, then it would have to start at 2pm, so you get 2 nights. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Because there is always one in the group who says "go on, just one more" and time becomes a bit wobbly and meaningless.

Who wants to start a party at 3 pm? Most folk are at work or if its a saturday doing other stuff. Its dinner then party so the party can't start until 9 - 10 pm.

Last afternoon bbq I went to still finished at 5 am even tho it started at 4 pm anyway.

Chemical is the only substance that can keep you going.

Any non-atomic substance could be considered a chemical, surely?

Personally I would rather start a party as late as possible, I hate early parties that ruin the latter half of a day when I could be doing other things.

I think the most likely response to this question would be, 'why not?' As TJ said, earlier start times do not necessarily lead to earlier finishes.

Personally I hate the wasted day/tiredness the day after so I like to get home in time for a cup of cocoa.

Maybe it harks back to our younger years, there was one weekend I got up at 8am friday and didn't get to bed till 11pm Sunday.

Jeesus, at no point in any part of my life have I managed that.

I have had a marathon sex session though that lasted from Friday night to Sat midnight on a girls parents bed when they were away on holiday. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

why stay up all night?

Because they still can?

When I was 18 I would stay up all night (drinking or otherwise having some kind of fun - never drugs though).

When I was 30 I could stay up till about 4am.

At 41 I am seriously flagging by 1am.

Once, lasting 5 minutes on Friday night, then next being able to perform 24 hours later doesn't constitute 'marathon'. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Actually I know someone who was renowned for falling asleep on the spot and one day at work, he was fiddling under the bonnet of his car during his lunch break. He didn't turn up after the break so someone went out to find him and he had fallen asleep slumped over the engine. LOL!

I have a memory of leaving a party on midsummers night at around 4.30 am and wandering across the links in full bright sunshine.

Many a summer party here finishes after sunrise - sunrise being around 3 am

So how much of that was her trying to find your wanger, then her simulating orgasm?

Wow you must have had to pay quite a bit for that.

Oh hang on there is no mention of anyone else being involved other than yourself. Going and masturbating on someone's parents' bed while they are way on holiday is a pretty strange sexual niche - is there a name for it?

Nope. Just asking a question that nobody, so far, has even attempted to offer an answer to. Is this a STW first?

The day of the 1997 election, I stayed up all night at a free party on Oxford's Portmeadow. The now-extinct Musik magazine published a full page photo of it - with me standing on a speaker stack, silhouetted against the most perfect dawn, to the sound of super heavy dub and jungle.

I voted at 0710 - first time I was old enough to vote (why did John Smith have to die, eh?).

Things were different then, of course.

Simple. There are things to do in the day and essentially parties originate from when people got together to find husbands/wives or just simply to get laid. That's more likely at the end of the day when it's dark later ๐Ÿ™‚ So, it's a cultural thing ๐Ÿ™‚

At least that's my theory.

And as for suggestion that you need drugs to party all night, that's b***ks though I suppose you could argue that redbull or similar is a stimulant though IME if it's a good enough party, you don't feel tired.

PS I remember hearing that John Smith had died. My first thought was, "what, the guy who does the crap beer?" ๐Ÿ™‚

Correction: free party was the night before. Perfect start to a pretty good day (or I so thought).

The fact that I voted for Bliar makes me feel a bit like Lady Macbeth (Out, damn'd spot!).

Ugh.

I never really "get" this trolling thing. You ask a bewilderingly pointless question, to which the over-whelming response is "shut it grandad, you're over the hill". And that means you have won an important moral victory over anyone who has wasted their time looking at your thread. Correct? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I loved all night parties, get togethers etc after the pub up all night talking crap and playing music, then lying in garden in the warm summer morning sunshine, discussing WTF the Teletubbies were all about.

Drugs, just say no or maybe yes if you are in the mood.

I kinda agree with PP.

I sometimes find it hard to sleep during the day. Id much rather sleep during the night.

So why not start the party earlier ?

I quite like going out drinking during the day when the suns shining.

Admittedly I've had some great nights when I've come home at dawn but It totally messes your sleep patterns up.

No, you ask a question and, if instead of getting a thread load of fawning replies, you get made to look a bit of a twunt you then come back with "oh I was only trolling"
