How much do they earn? What qualifications do you need?
The school parking thread makes me want to be one.

Around our way they are certainly open to bribes.

Qualifications include the ability to walk and the ability to write, though not necessarily at the same time.

The ability to knock wing mirrors off is desirable. They must get paid loads, because we all know they only do it for the money.

Apparently you need "tact, patience and a sense of humour".
Always a bloody drawback isn't there?

I really don't think you can generalise as to the character of Wardens as they are all people and therefore variable.

I would say that though as one of my best mates is one.

I think he's on about 18k so not mega money.

Here you go...

I'd be crap/awesome cos I'd let your average driver park wherever but Chelsea Tractor drivers & owners of other 'fancy cars' would be ****ed!

Thats a typo - it should have read 'tact, patience and a Shestopyor'

The job's as good as yours.

The ability to take shit all day, for just doing your job - which is a bloody important one IMO, from lazy people who'll risk the very fine they're moaning about to save themselves a 5 min walk.

I wouldn't do it unless it was that or the dole, but I don't knock them for it, without them chaos would reign supreme anywhere where people can drive.

I work on my feet all day so that wouldn't be a problem, not sure about the weather though!
Here in Rochdale and I suspect most towns, the level of selfish ****tishness from drivers is astounding. Cars are parked/dumped wherever is convenient and sod the consequences for anybody else.
Its a subject that's really interesting me now as I want to see town centres without private cars.

I've always thought it would be 'interesting' to be one for a short while just to remain calm in the face of someone ranting when they are in the wrong.

I've long since thought I should be empowered by the local Constabulary is all things related to driving badly/inconsiderately to hand out on the spot fines. I would do that for free though my ideal business model involves me being paid on a commission basis as I'd be beyond reproach 🙂
On a separate point, why do so many drivers think giving way to the right doesn't apply at mini roundabouts. I look forward to the day I can drive an old Landy uninsured and NOT stop to avoid the collision in these circumstances.

I'm fully appreciative of the concept of TW's to keep things organised, it's the little hitlerism that comes with positions of power that pisses me off. My experience with them has been 50/50 so that makes them pretty good when compared with the arseholeness of the gen pop (99.9/0.1).

The mobile blood bank bus was given a ticket near us.
I've seen a warden ticket a bus at a bus stop.
One of our delivery drivers was getting so much grief that he got a letter from TFL confirming that he was indeed entitled to park on loading bays.
He showed the letter to the traffic warden then did his deliveries, came back to a ticket.
Then as I alluded earlier there are people who park their sign written vans all day in the hour bay and never get a ticket.
Scum.

Whilst I can empathise, there wouldn't be any opportunity for little hitlerism if people parked considerately all the time. I've parked on double yellows occasionally and have always known it would be my fault if a TW collared me. For the 'shouty sweary aggressive it's not my fault' types I'd authorise use of a taser to allow the hard working TW to get on with what they are paid to do 🙂

I might be advocating a slightly draconian approach as I'd also authorise use of smallish rocket launchers for cars that try to speed away from Police when their blues and twos are on.
