I'm heading to Ilkley this Sunday for the Fat Lad sportive - not a town I've been to before.
The event is based at the rugby club, but no parking on site for riders. There will be about 600 riders all in the same boat - any locals with a suggestion for somewhere to leave the car for the day arriving around 8am?
Cheers
Remember to take some head wear. Don't be caught out on Ilkley Moor bar tat. Can't help with parking though, sorry.
Lido carpark opposite the rugby club.
There is a decent sized car park in the center of town, behind Betty's. Probably a 5 min spin to the rugby club. Otherwise New Brook Street can park cars down each side of the street. If you got really stuck, park in one of the villages on the train line to Ikley. Roll down the hill to the rugby and on the way back you can get the train back to the car. And thanks for the heads up...might modify my plans for Sunday!
They did suggest the Lido but wasn't sure if we'd all fit in!
And I will have headwear, as "bar tat" = "bar ride".
Thanks for the answers though
ooh; there's a Betty's in Ilkley? And i was going to Skipton after coming off the Manx boat @ Heysham. Conflicted! 75 miles MCTD???
The other side to the rugby club is all free and depending on arrival time should be pretty empty.
Plenty of parking on this road http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=411524&Y=448202&A=Y&Z=115 leading to the old bridge (the rugby club is the building under the first 'L' of Ilkley, the lido is obviously just to the NE of that.). There's also parking on the road leading S from that area back into town.
Can't help with parking but did a fat lad sportive a couple of years back in Derbyshire. The food stops were awesome, best sportive ever for that reason alone. Have fun?.
As above, if you're arriving early you should easily be able to park by the Lido, or on the long road down from the town centre next to the park.
I'd aim to get there before the mass of other riders, but there should be no problem really.
Stevio - only the 50 this year. I'm one of their Flambassadors so I've offered to lead a group on the ride, but sounds like they have enough already so I'm just going to cruise between these food stops I keep hearing about!
Did you enjoy it? grotty looking on our 8am 'Wave" but cleared up by Grassington... And isn't that Dale above the Falcon pub long... So you missed the pie stop @ malham then??
Just park on a double yellow and suffer the fine, your profile name suggests that won't be an issue ๐
