I spend a lot of time helping my elderly mum with computer issues. But with restrictions and W Yorks now in tier 3 and high rates of transmission it's not possible to do face to face.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had to try and talk an elderly parent through all sorts of computer based stuff. On the phone and not being able to see the screen with vaguely described issues like "I'm trying to play Bridge with Betty but I can't see the cards" or "why can't I send and email to Doreen" - it's a test of temperament!
I'm sure there must be remote support software I can install on her laptop that I can use to take remote access - it's what our support team does at work.
Any suggestions? Windows 10 is the OS
I've used Team Viewer in the past (receiving end) and there is a free version I believe.
Windows also had/has a version built in. Googling brings up-
On Windows 10, the Windows Remote Assistance tool is a little hidden. You can still find it by opening the Start menu, searching for “Remote Assistance”, and clicking the “Invite someone to connect to your PC and help you, or offer to help someone” option.
Anydesk works pretty well for me
Google Chrome Remote Desktop is dead easy to use (and free*).
*At the point of use, anyway.
I'm a heavy TeamViewer user. I believe it is free for personal use as well (or least used to be back at V10)
Chrome Remote Desktop is great when it works but I find it only works on about 50% of my machines but on those it is great
Another TeamViewer user here. Once loaded it is fairly quick to use and is free for personal use
I often use the free TeamViewer version with my elderly parents. It works really well.
If you don't want to install anything try Quick Assist (Start > Quick Assist) you log into with a Microsoft account and give the person who's PC you want to access a pin code. It's built in to W10 and pretty easy for both sides.
I use Team Viewer when away from home, to sort Mrs Gob's IT problems.
Works very well and uses very little bandwidth.
I use teamviewer for my nan as above.
Also you can install it on your mobile phone too- its more awkward than using it from a PC but usefull in an emergency.
TeamViewer here also for accessing my Mum's laptop.
Thanks all
I've just used Quick Assist. I think that will cover off what I need for the sort of stuff she is asking me. See how it goes and install something more sophisticated if required.
