[Closed] Painting the garage floor

I've decided to reorganise chez Kiril (the garage). The main focus is to improve security but I'm tempted to paint the floor (currently partially covered by Lino off cuts). I've read a variety of DIY opinions, has anyone done it? And did it work?
Thanks

Good prep & a decent paint is a must otherwise it will look rubbish in 6 months

Sod that, get some roll-a-trac flooring.

Thanks Zippy, although in true Stw style there's no consensus! I'm liking the chuck it on the floor and roller it method! But I have requested a rolla track quote!

BTW Im going to be painting the boiler room floor this summer and I have had great results with Bedec's Multi Surface Paint so shall be using their water-based garage floor paint.

Just done ours. Floor was in a mess and full of dust. One coat of sealer and two coats of grey Ronseal heavy duty garage floor paint with a further coat on main area. Looks good. Needed to be done in three stages due to amount of stuff in garage

Painted my a few years back to help seal the concrete. Can remember the name of the paint but it was garage floor specific and not from B&Q. Green if that helps.

Clean wash and dry the floor first otherwise you are painting over the dust and rubbish and the paint will peel.

Don't start painting by the door and work your way backwards to the corner. That would be really silly and slightly embarrassing when you have to phone your wife in the house to try and build a bridge to get out. Apparently. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Finished with a final coat. Realised the alarm button and remote were too far away to reach. Scratched my head a bit then realized I could set the alarm from the bedroom above and close the door with the remote fob. Panic was then over.

Someones cat the night the floor was laid. Thought about filling in before painting. Abigale thinks we should paint them black

I used International Garage Floor Paint. It contains a 'slip-resistant additive' ie sand so you don't create an ice rink.

I did mine a half at a time moving everything to one side. My only regret is not filing in a few of the holes in the floor before I painted. Once the paint is down the blemishes are really obvious. I'd also pressure wash the floor.

If you're parking a car on it (crazy, I know, but you might!), it's worth brushing some talc or something over the top once it's dry. Virgin clean paint + warm car tyres + weight of car = chunks of concrete being pulled up when you reverse out again.

Just done mine, but it was a new build so easier than most. 2 coates or whole tin of Thompsons Concrete Seal http://www.diy.com/nav/build/building-materials/building-chemicals/paving_seal/Thompson-s-Concrete-Seal-Clear-5L-9273010?skuId=9282710

then about 5 coates of Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor paint
http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/paint-woodcare/specialist-paints/garage_floor_paint/Ronseal-Diamond-Hard-Garage-Floor-Paint-Slate-5L-10727853?skuId=11218556

More coates than I wanted due to the paint being different colour (or not mixed properly) on my 3rd coat! Lots of people say this in the reviews too. Make sure you mix it really well before using.

Chaps, looking at sealing my garage floor whilst the weather is good and would like a little advice. I'm wanting to seal the old dusting concrete and am thinking of using SBR as it's waterproof unlike PVA. Should I dilute the SBR or use it neat? Not bothered about painting it yet just need to seal it. Cheers.

My father is a painting contractor, we just used to get a load of old half used tins of gloss, mix them up and roll the floor.
Always lasted a good while.
Might be worth a look in a paint shop see if they have any old colours they are looking rid

Well I've got about 10 litres of SBR left over after having all the back garden landscaped and patio installed. Anyone else used SBR before?

Small bump.

Any of you 9-5ers used SBR to seal a dusty concrete (garage) floor before? Any recommendations on what/if to dilute and to what ratio?

Chaars.
