So I'm guessing people impatiently smashing F5 as pages fail to load is gaining more in ad revenue than that lost by people that can't be arsed to wait.
Hats off to the owners for actually posting about the "changes" though, unlike when so many users were getting dodgy porn redirects and nothing was said, other than at the same time gloating about the increased ad revenue from the Ling Cars thread.
That was really ****ing classy.
Keep up the good work! 😀

Nice stealth edit there.

I can't ban myself so have to self-moderate. Sometimes it takes a minute for own filter to catch up. Thanks for outing me though.

P here for a long time now, pages as always take fractions of a second to load.

I still struggle with why there are so few Ps, with the benefits associated, considering they're getting a free forum i'm not sure non-Ps have a lot of grounds to complain.

Support the forum... Get your P.

The non-P people are supporting the forum. Due to the way it is designed, the extra clicks result in an increase of revenue by those with adverts on. This has been done to death...the non-P people aren't getting this for free as the usability of the site is impacted to generate more money from them due to how the forum works (ads in the middle of pages, unable to jump to the last page so having to do an in-between page visit, forum content loading after the adverts, etc.)

No one has addressed the elephant in the room yet. There will be another day when we all have to work or ride bikes coming up shortly. I'm off to book another Samaritans call.

Erm, I (self) logged out last night when Mark stood on the pulpit. I’ve just logged back in...

And..

It seems a helluva lot quicker this morning..

Did they turn it off and turn it on again over night?

Err? I'm non-P and getting to the last page or post in a thread is a one-click operation. To get to the last (or any) page of a thread click on the [1] [2], etc links, to get to the last post click on the "xxx minutes" Freshness text.

Providing free content that Mark is monetising aren't we?

Unless you think people come to this site just for the ads.

Quid pro quo.

Mark pays for the forum, we talk the shite, people read the shite, people also see the ads, Mark gets paid for people seeing the ads, Mark uses that money to pay for the forum......and so it goes round and round.

Circle of Life innit.

You're assuming that the advertising on the forum pays for the actual forum, let alone the people who help run it too.

When the time comes and STW towers falls down, all the people will be screaming on Fb. But its all their fault.

Do you think there would still be a forum if everybody without a p stopped posting / visiting?

and more to the point do you thing the forum would still be here if it wasn't publicly available for anyone to find, read, join and contribute too?

When you first found STW would you have taken out a paid subscription just make your first post?

Depending on the % of P to non-P, you might not be the lifeline you think you are.

10yrs later, and I still wouldn't.....but then I like to think of myself as a content creator 😀

The best thing about that screenshot of the holding page was the fact they don't appear to have a premier sub judging by the ads...

Years ago the Grauniad had a forum ,GUT (Guardian Unlimited Talk).
A bit like here, it was very popular and full of some very diverse threads. One day, they just switched it off,for ever. Oh there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but in the end, people just found something else. So if the lovely old STW vanished for ever,it would be a bit like that scene at the end of the Truman Show, all the viewers would just change channels and see what else was out there. 😉

Apparently there's a site on the net especially for mums. I've heard its very diverse and has better swearing.

All the windows have been bricked up and a SWAT team is running up the stairwell from the basement.

I thought it was the same cat but I wasn't sure

I managed to read this whole page of this thread and it was still loading by the time I'd read every word and clicked "log in".

It took ages to read the thread because it kept jumping up or down to the laser eye surgery adverts at the top and bottom of the screen - it's done that on every page with that advert on it. To the point where the site is almost unusable.

Other than that, same old same old.

I know the advertising on here pays for the forum (or at least it certainly used to).

As others have said, it's been done to death. As with sdb, I'm pretty sure I was buying the mag long before I found the forum.

I don't personally subscribe as I'm now in oz and I hate emags. I was willing to explore international subscriptions to the paper version (and associated P), then Mark decided to have a petty argument with me over whether or not I was a customer, which sort of made up my mind on that one...

loving the new large video ad that gets compressed into a tiny banner but won't let you scroll the page any more.
