I reckon ariana grande has ensured honourary Manc status tonight. Fair play to the lass!
C'mon guys it's not aimed at middle aged cyclists! The kids appear to be loving it & singing along too.
she's nowhere near surly enough 😉
Mind; She'll not get short-served in Greggs if she insists on weighing her pies.
Grande is a class act. Fully applaud what she has done tonight
From a teary Mrs B...
"Someone go and give her a hug!"
Did everyone else spot Bregante....
😀
LOL! Not my kind of music but it was beautiful to see all those kids having a great time. That is the answer.
It made me feel old, I barely recognised any of the acts and was worried for the impact on the Old Trafford wicket.

That but also:
We've raised an incredible £2.35 MILLION during #OneLoveManchester!
Thank you so much for your donations. http://redcross.org.uk/love

I thought it was brilliant.
How can anyone be cynical about that event. Bloody superb.
That girl showed some proper character tonight. Inspirational.
My kids were in tears watching it.
Had to keep my cynical filter on like you gits though. Otherwise I would have got sand in my eyes
Some of the vocals were shocking, genuinely. But **** it, the kids there were in another world. Far away from the recent horrors. I take my hat off to all that made it possible, it was like a huge collective therapy group. BZ.
FFS - the performers had very little time to rehearse and they put on a great show in a few days. I think everyone involved should be applauded. I particularly enjoyed Bieber personally but I thought Coldplay shouldn't have had the top billing they got.
@johndoh, I get it pal, not trying to be a dick. It speaks more about the state of modern music than anything personal against the artists. Like I said, I applaud them all for taking the time and effort to make that happen for that city.
Never really understood the dislike for Coldplay music, his image yeah but the music is good.
I think you've answered your own lack of comprehension there 😉
Personally I thought it was far to early to be putting a benefit show on, surely the Police must have enough on their hands with the ongoing investigation and protecting vulnerable areas.
My Daughter and Mrs enjoyed it in the other room.
Christ the are some mistake f*****s on here. Why don't you just accept it for the great event that it is/was or watch something else.
It's a good job no one outside a few bores on stw have any interest in what we are writing.
Prior to last week I'd never heard of Ariana Grande, but by way of balance one of the fans on twitter said she'd had to google "Liam Gallagher" during the show. Which seems like it's how things should be. This show wasn't for me, but I'm glad it happened.
Aye, they got a good spectrum of acts to suit everybody. Fair play, they need it. Like I said, one big collective therapy session. Can't fault the spirit of the thing in the slightest.
Turns out the choir were from my godsons school. 😀

Why? Show the bad people that they have changed nothing, people like to get out and watch a show.
And the Police would probably like a night where everyone is all smiles and happy after some of the stuff they would have had to deal with at the arena.
And while it's all fresh the Red Cross will get more money. Good work
Christ the are some mistake f*****s on here. Why don't you just accept it for the great event that it is/was or watch something else.
Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I'm full of praise to Ariana Grande for stepping up and doing it, and the many other things she has also offered in the wake of Manchester, and to the Manchester authorities for saying 'you know what - it will stretch resources a bit but **** it, let's have a concert anyway because we don't give in to shit like this'.
But please don't stop middle aged men from responding in our normal way to this sort of thing either - which for me is gently taking the piss a bit. Because that's normal, and if I can't be a bit normal at times like these then i would just lie down and cry and not get up again.
It's not meant to be nasty, it's my only defence to this kind of crap, to carry on being as normal as I can.
I didnt watch it all as it made me nervous for some reason.
But hats off to them all. A massive gig in a short space of time. That lass (who i never knew who she was tbh) has pulled it out of the bag imo.
Massive respect to all involved with that. It cant have been easy.

When Katy Perry came on "is that Julian Clarey?"
I thought it was Gozer the Gozerian
Katy Perry looks well strange now.
Has anyone else seen Liam's Twitter feed ? I will not repeat it on here as you can imagine the tone, but he is not happy with Noel.
"He's like a man with a fork, in a world of soup"
Noel Gallagher about his brother Liam
😆
I thought that Katy Perry looked more like Myley Cyrus than Miley did 🙂
I was also surprised to learn that Bieber could play a guitar 😆
Wasn't my choice of viewing, but didn't find it too offensive, even if the missus had to tell me who half the acts were
Cheers, Rich
C'mon guys it's not aimed at middle aged cyclists!
Why would you even watch it? I totally understand the sentiment or donating but why would you wilfully sit through that sugar coated pop dirge?
Fair enough if you are in a school age female household with only one TV but if ever there was an opportunity to read a book/watch an 'art movie' on the laptop in private/ go to the pub then surely that was it.
Despite my allergies to Bieber et al I'll probably watch it on iplayer tonight. Seems like the thing to be done.
I too had no idea who Aria was until two weeks ago, but kudos for pulling off the biggest "**** You" to the terrorists she could have. Huge live concert organised in less than two weeks, proceeds to charity and everyone happy. Amazing effort.
The police don't all seem to find it an onerous task.

Nicely done!
Why would you even watch it?
Because I'm not a miserable cynical old fart.
My partner watched it on her laptop while I followed the rather more entertaining commentary on here. OK so it wasn't anything I'd want to listen to, in fact some of it appeared be totally unlistenable but I think it went down well with the target audience and achieved what it was meant to achieve.
Because I'm not a miserable cynical old fart.
Never watched children in need but that hasn't stopped me donating. Just because something is for a good cause why do you have to force yourself to watch it? That's not being miserable or cynical it's just deciding that you don't want to sit through a couple of hours of teeny pop just because everyone else is.
Fair enough if that's music you love but I can't believe that's on your average STW‘ers playlist.
Katy Perry looks well strange now.
I thought she was looking pretty damn hot actually................
Justin Beiber is a talented multi-instrumentalist. I don't like his music but he can play for sure.
I agree, but watched most of it anyway.
Worth it just to see so many people enjoying themselves.
Can't say much of the music is stuff I'd listen too again, but who cares?
Good on AG, she comes across as a remarkably decent individual.
Honorary Manc indeed.
After going to see all the fans who are still in hospital and having a hand in sorting all that out, (OK I know she wasn't there all weekend erecting the stage and boarding out the cricket pitch, but she was undoubtedly the figure head) I think Ariana Grande should be awarded a freeman of Manchester.
It's easy to be cynical about pop stars motives and assume they aren't really that bothered about their fans, but that was a bang up job. Nice one our kids.
Just because something is for a good cause why do you have to force yourself to watch it? That's not being miserable or cynical it's just deciding that you don't want to sit through a couple of hours of teeny pop just because everyone else is.
I didn't have to force myself to watch it 🙄
And I didn't watch it "because everyone else is"
I watched it because it felt good to see something positive for a change. And it felt good knowing that people aren't letting the terrorists force them to hide away at home in fear.
If you can't see that the whole event was about more than music, then I think you have totally missed the point 🙁
Some people just don't like that kind of thing.
That's all, no big deal.
If you can't see that the whole event was about more than music
thats obvious, you would have to live in a cultural/media vacuum to not know that.
me watching 3 hours of Beiber, Take-that, Katy Perry and Coldplay isn’t going to change the reasons/sentiment or help those affected. a donation or going about your daily lives as normal might.
if you are a big Ariana Grande fan or felt that watching was a useful way to spend 2-3hrs of your time and helped those close to you deal with their anxiety then obviously i wouldn’t suggest you should do otherwise.
+1 tthew
Watching it now on iplayer and quite impressed how well it's been pulled off. Sure, most of the music's not to my taste, but to achieve that in a week is bloody impressive.
Manchester, I'm proud of you
Personally I didnt get it, yes what happened in Manc was awful, however
Robbie was plugging his tour (badly)
Ariana G is now a lot more famous (and rich) than she was.
The TV presenters were trying (painfully) to look as sad as they could.
No she only went to the Manchester hospital, there are victims now in other hospitals in the UK that she didnt visit.
I bet her input went as far as saying, Manager I want to do something for the people who were there, then her manager sorted the rest £££££
Well, I'm glad I'm not as cynical as you
