At my current client's (you'd have to guess).
Sorry, didn't get a chance to get pics, but just out getting something from my van and the garage was just open to take delivery of a rather tasty motor.
This motor was popped into a garage alongside a, no joke, Ferrari 275 and a 288. Pron enough you'd think until you hear that the car being delivered was a red F40. ๐ ๐
Jeez, I don't get excited about cars much, but one couldn't help but swoon a little. Pity they were wasted on me though - I know others here would have enjoyed them much more.
Thanks for coming round. Excellent works you're doing, DD ๐
S'alright, we had a williams F1 car parked on our driveway for a few hours, unfortunately it was sans engine ๐ weighed absolutely nothing though, you could lift up the front wheels by the nose cone!
You at Chris Evans' house?
AYe - was at Beaulieu the other day with the kids and dragged my finger along the tyre of a maclaren to see how soft/grippy it was - car moved about a foot ๐ณwilliams F1 car parked on our driveway for a few hours, unfortunately it was sans engine weighed absolutely nothing though, you could lift up the front wheels by the nose cone!
Seen just about every type of supercar there is in This London.
The Veyron, close up, just looks ugly really. Ferraris are often the nicest imo. Loads of top end motors come out of Canary Wharf every day; loads of Astons. Porsches don't seem to be in vogue any more though, unlike the 80s.
I don't really like most modern supercars, I prefer older classics. Tbh, one of the few cars I really drool over is not even a 'supercar':
Yer Lamborghinis etc seem to be owned mainly by tasteless bods with more cash than sense. Utterly pointless cars for anywhere other than a track, let's be honest. Go places like Swiss cottage, Hampstead and Richmond, and you'll see far nicer old classics, driven by folk who could easily afford the modern stuff, but who actually have better taste.
In November I drove an Aston Martin and a Ferrari on one of those pay and drive days. The Aston was horrible, clumpy and heavy and awkward to drive with the pedals too close together but the Ferrari was so good that I want to drive another one for longer. The problem was that after three laps of the airfield I was just getting into the swing of it when it was time to finish.

If we're honest they're crap on track too (4wd).
They're a pointless car, and thats the point.
Effin in not impressed shocka. ๐
As for you leclub, you couldn't afford me, let alone the headlamp of the 275. ๐
Elfin, I'm suprised. Got a bit of thing for H vans as well.
Well, how's this for niche motors? Yesterday I parked behind a Tesla Roadster at CW ๐
- priced up the wing mirrors yet DD ?let alone the headlamp of the 275
Yeah I understand the point of a pointless car (!), but tbh I just think they're soulless and bereft of any real 'character', you know?
I mean, a Countach is a Countach; it's distinct and unique. All the new ones well I can't tell which is which; Gayardo, Murkylardo, Avocado, Benton, Fenton whatever- all look the same to me.
See what I mean though? Proper iconc 70s styling and imagery, plus gratuitous totally unnecessary scantily clad pretty lady draped decoratively across it...
Proper car pron.
(No, no; it's not sexist for me to post the pics; it's within the context of a discussion on automotive design and culture so it's ok)
Ohh bollocks I agree with Elf - that is the one car I have always wanted. They look even better from behind.
Still go for really silly money too!

Yup Elfs right, park in Waitrose Carpark at CW and it's full of top end stuff sitting waiting for owners to finish work on the 42nd floor.
Seriously cool cars are driven daily though, classics should be driven and used proppers like not hidden in a shed.
My old mate has a 1922 DeLarge (a French Bentley stylee) and he uses his for stuff like Peking to Paris and them there Classic Time Trials. It's a bit battered, a bit bruised and looks all the better for it IMO, he also drives a Ford Mustang fastback in that there London daily, it's pale blue if you see it..
My all time want car - Citroen DS. Yes I love supercars but I always come back to DS. When I have a garage.........
There's an F40 in a very unassuming garage a few miles up the road from me. Followed it home once from town - some noise!

Post of the year right there already! ๐
scaredy, they're not heated mate. ๐
DD you're local to Bristol aren't you? If so I may know your client.
KT, yes but this isn't Bristol. Quite near Henleyshire.
AYe - was at Beaulieu the other day with the kids and dragged my finger along the tyre of a maclaren to see how soft/grippy it was - car moved about a foot
I got to play with the wheels/tyres as part of an engineerung event sponsored by shell. Made MTB wheels feel heavy and unwhieldy!
Aha, chap I know is in Bristol.
I once got to sit in a Rally Car and have a proper play behind the wheel at a pre-race event (The Lombard RAC when it started and finished in Harrogate).
Not light, but beautiful engineering.

Heh! You like that one innit Geoff? ๐
That to me, is pr0n
To me, and it's entirely subjective obviously, that just looks like a souped up Granada or something. Just can't get excited about it.
'Supercars' seem to be so generic these days; there's little to really distinguish one from another. None of them seem to really 'stand out from the crowd'.
Not a supercar, by any definition possible, but the most aesthetically outstanding car round my way is one of these:
Rubbish, by today's standards really, but as a piece of design, wonderful. It struck me that the 2VC will be still remembered when all the other cars on the street are long forgotten.
And maybe that's actually what makes it a super car.
Have you ever driven one Elf? Bloody awful gearbox in them.
My god. I find myself agreeing with Elfin. Classics are where its at.
There is something about Ferrari as well. I've never really been into them, but there is something about them. They're usually very well finished too, unlike some Italian exotica ...
I'd particularly like a classic Alfa GTV or GTA.
My dad had a couple of DS's in his time. fond memories of sleeping in the back of one driving through france
As far as classics go...
I would also like a mk1 or 2 Capri or an Escort Mexico.
Or even a humble Mini 'Thou'
Bently blower,
Once rode past one on a road ride though town, it's huge, not just big, it dwarfed modern saloon cars!
Is the client half of an 80's pop duo? ๐
I like the old lambos, the old prancing horses (the 288 and the 308GTB are lovely cars) and one or two others, but modern cars are getting less pretty across the board.
As for 4wd being less good on a track - not really, they just attain higher speeds (average) and can still kick the tail out like a RWD all day long, they just require less caution when doing it. Yet another reason it was banned from F1 IIRC.
For me though, super cars are the reserve of the rich - I'll never afford a decent one unless I strike gold, but I am working on building something faster and more fun instead. Won't have the bells and whistles (and roof) of a supercar, or have the same max speed, but it'll acceelrate, decelerate and corner better, and thats where fun comes from in a car for me. Each to his own.

I did about 80,000 miles in a 2CV, and disagree.

The one I drove for a summer had an awful one - it appeared to have no reason to it, nor any specific gears, just a pull and a twist and a push and a turn and it didn't seem to matter what gear it was in, they all appeared to be the same one.
Perhaps it was just the one I drove?
Was riding towards home on the road bike about 18 months ago when an F40 came past, trundling really (heading east through Tansley on the A615 if you know it) as it was a 30 zone. Thought it was a standard red 355/360/430 to start with as it drew up alongside but I quickly realised what it was, just before we left the village and he thumped off up the road. Great noise ๐
Saw it again a few weeks later on the A6 at Rowsley and couldn't help but wonder why you wouldn't use some of the many great driving roads in the area rather than mooching around on the busy ones.

Maybe he was just going shopping? No point having a nice car if you don't use it, I hate it when people keep a nice car locked away for sunny days only.

Exactly! Once warm, you hardly need to use the clutch, either.
Saw a 288 GTO in the car park outside Bagshot Sainsbury's once. How cool?
Just like proper pron, visually peleasing but you'd probably turn down the offer of a ride. I turned down the offer offer of a ride in a Ferrari but my request to drive his wife's AMG Merc was accepted.
I had a 2cv when I first passed my test. I have very fond memories of driving it around central London at silly o'clock in the morning post-clubbing with my mates standing up out of the roof.... utter stupid of course but brilliant fun ๐

Maybe he was, but no matter which shops he was going to, there's a better way of getting there than the way he was going!
I've owened a 2CV, it was my very first company car and I adored it. It was excellent for carrying surf boards, mates hated it though, but they'll never understand. Elf's pic is an excellent choice, mine was white too and one of the last imported into this country.. I miss it still. Never had any problems with it and if truth be told, would love another.
Another choice of mine would be the Renaul 5, the early in dash version of course and the three door. Then I guess you could bring in the Renult 5 Turbo and there in bring in the XR2/205 1.9 GTi and Mk1 Golf and so on.
Purity in spirit the 2cv. Bit like me that.
