Has anyone tried this, I'm tempted to get a PT to show me how to do it properly as it covers the whole body. I currently do dead lifts and squats etc, plus it looks great fun!

*yes I know I can injure myself doing this so save the jargon or not her thread.

I briefly trained with a friend who is/was ex team GB.

To do it right takes some practice but it is worth it 8)

Would a bog std PT have the requisite experience to advise on power lifting?

Your average PT or Crossfit instructor won't have a clue how to do them properly. They might think they do but very few will realy know what they are talking about. You would be better off finding a weightlifting club with experienced and qualified coaches. A good qualification to look for in a PT would be for them to be UKSCA accredited. They need to know their olympic lifting shit to have this

Both the Snatch and Clean and Jerk are highly technical movements. I see them done terribly in the gym all the time. They are great fun to do though and will develop your explosive power tremendously but get good advice. A good coach should be able to shift a considerable amount of weight. That will tell you they can actually lift. Anyone can sort of do it with light weights.

There are some good online resources - coachesinfo.com, nsca, uksca etc. don't listen to anyone who reads bodybuilding magazines.

Yes used it as part of tmy strength training back in the day, related to 800m racing. Great for building strength, power and speed when used in conjunction with specific training periodisation. You should make sure you are supervised by someone who really understands technique as the risk of injury can be high. Be careful as its great fun and can be adictive as a sport in its own right. Have fun and remember the louder you shout the heavier you lift.

Sound advice above, body builder know nothing about it.

Thanks for the links, oddly I've never seen anyone do it down the gym.

You really need a lifting platform to do it safely. Commercial gyms don't often have these.

Plus it doesn't really work the gunz so most don't bother with it.
