I got Brendan Foster's autograph at the AAA championships back in the early 80s. The guy with him also signed my program and put his event in brackets so we knew who he was...

Linford Christie (100m)

Roger Black's kids go to the same gymnastics club as my girls. I sometimes see him there, but I've never actually spoken to him.

One of my friends has a facebook profile picture with Usain Bolt. Another one has a video in which he's named and thanked by Usain* for something or other. He does mispronounce his name though.

*First name terms, you see?

I won a race once where chris hoys dad was calling out the names/doing prize presentation.. Only when the line that starts with 'and in first place...' was said,it didn't end with my name on the end.

Much confusion, discussion and peeved off-ness. Not his fault.

I've raced with Bradley Wiggins. He won, I didn't. (Wally Gimber 2001)

I've raced with him many times - first at Herne Hill where he kept getting moved up into our group (I'm about 2 yrs older than he is) but then he'd just go on to beat all of us anyway.

That's the tenuous one, got loads of far less tenuous ones but that's not in the spirit of the thread!

I'm 6-time gold medal winner and Britain's most successful Olympian ever, Chris Hoy. Can you beat that?

Couple of local links to Tom Daly (closest I suppose is that one of my colleagues is his second cousin).

I have also met Claude Piquemal a couple of times -he grew up in the same village as my nan, won a couple of olympic bronzes and helped set a (briefly held) world record for the 4x100m relay. My nan still knows him and there is a little plaque over the house he was born in.

Bloke in my office met a former Olympian on a train. He got a bronze for shooting in the 70s. He said "Seeing as you didn't ask" and presented his bronze medal. We don't know his name (which makes this a rubbish name-drop).

I once shook Bradley Wiggins hand. Soon after, he began his climb to stratospheric heights of greatness. Make of that what you will.

And my BiL works for Kelloggs and met Sir Chris Hoy. He also acquired for me a Bran Flakes polo shirt bearing the signature of teh great man.

I know and have rowed with some of the GB team. I clashed oars with Sir Steve a long time ago. Oh and I capsized a gold medalist on a really cold winter's day too 🙂

A mate of mine knows Sir Chris Hoy very well from uni and I've heard the tape that they made of them all farting after a few shandys 😀

During the Olympic bid process, I was a builders labourer and carried bricks to the bricky who was building a wall for someone involved in the bid process, I was informed that the previous day he had been on the phone to Lord Coe.

I used to play hockey in the same county side as Ashley Jackson, I have also been coached by, and played with, Sean Kerly, 1988 hockey gold medalist.

In a recent conversation with Sir Steve, we concluded that name dropping is most boring.

Sir Steve told me that he'd been talking to Sir Chris earlier and that he also agreed. 😉

Seb reckons that when that pair get together they're worse than a couple of old women. Bolty couldn't have cared less. 😐

I used to sit next to someone at work who's Mrs knows Mrs Wiggins and their kids play together. That makes us blood brothers and the Cristmas card I'm expecting will take pride of place on the TV.

I'm facebook friends with Xeno Muller, Gold medal winning Olympic rower.

I've had my photo taken by Debbie Flood, current GB Team - Womens 4x Sculler.

I met Roger Black many years ago as a wee lad. I was the wee lad, not him! 😆

I used to run with, and fairly regularly beat, Mark Lewis-Francis. I also used to be on "saying hello terms" with Denise Lewis.

Athletics clubs are pretty small communities now I think back.
