It's OK we have some spaces ear marked, definitely won't bump into any northerners or many other people

If anyone coming to Oz could bring some internets with them, that would be lush.

Teh interwebs works fine for me.... Streaming iplayer without any hassle.

Just as well because Aussie telly is total arse-drivel

Australia has got its faults - but I get to finish work early on a Friday and go surfing, so it's got that over farnborough

It's a 20 min train from there Zokes, nice and simple got to learn to love public transport out here

a friend of mine is now back in Melbourne (‘native islander’/australian) the hassle he has with train commuting makes southern trains in the SE look efficient. he would be back to London in a shot if it wasn’t for family commitments, the cost of living, racism and the attitude to cyclists out there being the other main issues.

The two descriptions of Finland earlier are so completely different to the Finland I know, lived in and still visit every year.

The Police and papers thing? never heard of that never did it. Two interactions with the Police stand out, mate lost his wallet went to report it and was given it back by the desk Sergeant who shouted "english man called Simon; yes we have your wallet" and we had a party raided due to noise complaints. we did have 130 people in a 3 bed apartment 😳 police man walked in he was about 6ft 8 tall and just said "everyone out now" 20 minutes later he is having his photo taken with the Spanish girls. 😆

Yes there is a right wing issue as there is in Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Britain, Germany etc etc, where I lived, Joensuu was renowned for having a skinhead scene but never saw it and from all accounts the ring leaders had been jailed.

Never met a Finn who was anything but friendly is an understated Finnish way.

Did have a friend from Hong Kong spat at in Poland and in Estonia but would not write off those countries for one incident.

Finnish winters are what you make of them, the dark can unsettle some but didn't have a problem with it.

Move to Liverpool, it's a vibrant, tolerant city. We all voted in.
We'll probably end up joining Scotland as they have the right idea.

Yes the Independent Republic of Brighton as part of the EU has already been mooted.

It's not that bad...Cost of living isn't an issue. I was skint in the UK, I'm skint (but sun tanned) here. Ho hum.

Racism... No worse than UK at the moment. Silly though, ex-pats, totally accepted. Immigrants? Back in the sea (literally).

Attitudes to cyclists.... Well, yeah. OK by and large we're ok. They've actually legalised riding on the pavement here in WA to keep us away from the shouty cagers. Now pedestrians hate us (yet ride a skateboard or scooter - cool bro, aye?).

I like it.

If you're going to bugger off because you didn't win and are now confident that the UK will fail and never recovery, bye. I think I may invest in packing boxes and removal vans then capitalise on your departure.
Can I have some numbers please, I wouldn't want to over invest to find out that most of you are nothing more than hot air.

We'd have been off to NZ months ago if I could persuade my kid's mum and her fella to follow suit..

My other half has an NZ passport and would be welcomed straight back into a job where she'd be earning 3 times what she can here, with infinitely better working conditions..
Climate's better, people are better, wine, beer and food's nicer.... and I can walk around in jandals, vest and y-fronts without feeling like a bogan

Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh 🙁 Anyone wanna buy a couple of hearty, well trained, good humoured kids?

So she must have very strong reasons for staying which top those ?

My Kiwi friends all have British passports now, earn much more here and have no intention of going back permanently (they have second homes there as its relatively cheap vs London / European alternatives)

Just had the estate agent round to get the sale moving.

Aiming to bury myself in a local-architect designed one storey-with-swimming pool in a small town in the southern Spanish mountains come September...

Although I did start arranging this well before the vote, I must say, given the generally vile language currently in use by the "Leavers", I suspect that the country will soon become somewhere any decent human being will want to leave, anyway...

Honestly I'm here for the life, I went to Utah/Rampage last year, back to the UK a couple of times, just back from NZ and much more.
If anything my earnings compared to the pound look even better today, I work 3 days a week on average, start and finish when I want and this is one of the trails in the city

If life was about money we would all be bankers

What suits one person does not suit another, especially around emigration so trying to argue it 'right' or 'wrong' doesn't really work. There are anecdotes and experiences and opinions. The drivers to go or stay are multi dimensional so don't bother.
YOu may have a better or worse quality of life, the political situation may or may not be better. One thing, if you do go, go with an open mind and don't expect it to be like home with better weather.

How has she lost $35k?

At a guess, she's sold her UK house, got the cash in the bank in £, and hadn't transferred it to US$ before the £ crashed.

I hope she has transfered it by now! As the £ still has a fair way to go, some stuff I've read seem to think we have at least another 10% to lose.

Shes selling her house here and buying in the states, theyve already committed to buy there, her husband has officially started his job, with kids they have to do it in the summer hols, but no money has transferred- sale not completed yet, the pound has lost 10% against the dollar compared to last week, if it goes to 1.2, she'll be even more stuffed.

she actually shares a desk with the 1 person in our institute who openly voted leave, hes on holiday in greece now, but he looked very guilty around her on friday and as for the other 10 or so europeans just in our department!

why would anyone feel guilty about how they voted? I certainly don't. I voted in but it wasn't to be. I certainly respect the right of others to vote freely. So if you dont agree with how some one voted they should be castigated, made to wear a little yellow star as a sign of their difference?

I'm certainly not joining that band wagon thanks. Please vote freely, follow your god, come from a different country. I m fed up with the lack of tolerance from both sides.

Ive lived abroad quite a bit with work. If you look for bad things about a country you certainly will find them, look for the good things and I'm certain you will also find lots of positives.

Ive heard so many ex pats say, oh when I move/get too country X it will be so much better. I meet them years latter and you guessed it they are still unhappy. You make yourself happy.

I don't think those who Remain voting were expressing intolerance when they voted. A large chunk of those who voted leave, however, were. Look around you at some of the more intolerant stuff going on since the Leavers "won".

I think they bloody well should feel guilty.

I have one Eastern Europpean colleague applying for citizenship in a panic, feeling hurt - despite living here for 14 years and being married to a born and bred Brit.

I have another colleague whose Scottish Husband is really upset.

My partners kids are pursuing Irish passports.

This is hugely different from a General Election result. This is a statement of negativity, of dislike, of intolerance. Just look at the posters, and the headlines of the pre-Brexit papers in the last week of the campaign. This was about fear and hate versus facts.

That's why I think personal feelings are allowed.

This is hugely different from a General Election result. This is a statement of negativity, of dislike, of intolerance.

rubbish, no its not its democracy

so you only want voting sometimes, the rest of the time we should have no say in these decisions in case a majority votes differently from you? Really? Anyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong?

Did all your family and friends all vote the same way? Mine certainly didn't. Is my mum and daughter wrong? They certainly didn't vote in terms of negativity, intolerance. They saw it as getting decision making back to London. Rightly or wrongly I respect their decision.

I think that perhaps on such huge matters perhaps experts should be left to make the decisions rather than relying on pawsy bear's mum and daughter's misguided views..

You might respect their decision, but I would find it easier to respect them if they could have admitted that they didn't have a ****ing clue what they were on about, and refused to vote

So far I've got offers on an airport transfer and a removals service. Any more for any more? I could put up something like a wedding list? Think a police check is only £25 for the cheapskates.

Actually, can I cash the transfer in early? Already booked for a month's visit this year, and airport parking is a shitter. TIA 😉

The whole racism thing being attached to Brexit is bollocks. I am sure that some voted for less than admirable reasons, but I bet that the right stays fringe here. I cannot think of a single reason it wouldn't. Being a bit bolder doesn't mean they'll be any more popular. If anything they have less to make noise about.

Woman of my wife's nationality was attacked in our small town on Friday, suggestions it was racially motivated. She's already scared so I don't want to worry her more, but she does need to visit friends in the evening and that means walking about. Any bright ideas?

I moved to London after spending 5 years in Helsinki. My new colleague here (non-EU) remarked that in a previous job, the number of non-Brits in her old place was about 10%. At my place in Helsinki, which was marketed as a shining light for multiculturalism in FInland, it was 0.8% and their target was 3%.

Despite the increasingly vocal anti-immigration gorllas in the UK, I still feel that the UK is fairly welcoming to immigrants.

I'm a 6ft, mid 20s white guy. I shouldn't have attracted any attention in Finland. But i was attacked in the street and then hospitalised, screamed at on the new Helsinki airport train to "leave this country" and told by my multicultural ex-employers that they prefer to hire Finnish people. My southamerican friends won't speak Spanish or Portuguese openly in the centre when it's dark. There are the Soldier of Odin who act as militia, harassing foreigners in the street. The one thing that I appreciated was that when I was being harassed or mugged or attacked, they did it in English.

That's interesting Hans but 2 years back I had to jump into an Eastern Europeans car as he tried to corner, my then 20 year old Daughter in my Country and final straw was last year Two Police persons knocked at my door and asked who I was? As they had an Eastern Europen in a Police Cell in Bexley (in my Country)! And I had to show my passport and Two addressed bills to prove who I am. And then asked how did he get my details?
What ennoyed me was that I was not allowed to see this person and was never told when he was in Court or what happened to him, other than he was caught shop lifting.
It's basically I hive for this shit in and around London.
