Bought a new boiler and planned to fit it on the opposite ( outside) side of the garage wall to where the current boiler is sited for simplicity.

How ever my installer has said - newp cant do that thats an internal corner. The garage is set back from the back wall of the house by 4/5 feet is he worried about flue gas build up ? I cant find owt online telling me what i can and cant do as i need to work out somewhere better for it in that case. Reality is simplicity doesnt matter as i need to replumb anyway and access is easy( going from 3 tanks to a combi )

Safety regs, currently i have a white pipe from the tank to the boiler - a barb fitting to some red flexy going to the burner ..... Nice and safe. Bought a tigerloop and a fire valve as advised by him just checking we are going to get no nasty surprises during fitting with other items needed ?

Security - how are external boilers secured to the floor normally - to prevent theft i mean.

Because he isnt here. Id like to have an idea what i can and cant do before he comes back rather than make a rash decision when he is here to fit it.

on a side note - if you dont mind me asking? roughly what is he charging to fit it?

i got a new boiler in the start of July with the intention to fit it myself, but with holidays/work and mtb iv not had the time and considering getting someone in to do it

Plumber friend of my dad traveling up to do it at mates rates , not simply a boiler change , moving and replacing radiators ( although ill end up doing the donkey work while he does the skilled bits) replumbing my colds to the mains and the hots to the combi , removing all the tanks and existing pipework. Not expecting change of 4 grand for the lot. ( boiler was a significant chunk of that and they beat any online price i could find) - how ever my dad does put all his commerical work to the chap so its a favour.

Found building regs and found a better place to site the boiler in accordance with them to keep me out of hassle.

Tbh i could fit it my self with a polo mallet and a christmas cracker and be better than what the chap who lived here before me did - and he was a retired heating engineer ! - flue venting into the garage so when im in the garage i get gassed if the boilers on...... No fire valve and no insulation on any pipework. Coupled with the fact that you need to manually adjust a valve to choose between heating the radiators or heating the hot water tank..... Clowns

what boiler is it. will say in instructions about siteing it and the clearances required.

Manufactures instructions supercede building regs.

Cheers bear , ill have a look on their website its a grant vortex pro 26 external combi.

Maybe thats where he got this internal corner thing from.

The new siting should actually work in my favour as i wont need to move it if i ever get round to extending my garage that extra 5 feet 😉 just means more complex pipe routing instead of just extending the current pipes.

Cheers pjm84

Have now spoken to the fella and we agree that even though more hassle its worth putting the boiler in the other area ive now designated as it works better for me and keeps him in the right with manufacturers recomendations.

Around p58 is the relevant stuff for you, if I understand your OP. This is what your engineer needs to work to in order to sign off the installation, not just the manufacturer's instructions.

Manufacturers instructions on oil and gas overide building regs, not the same for solid fuel though.
