Pretty much every decent punk band of the 70's was from London tbh....
like this lot for example...
As a Yorkshireman it pains me beyond comprehension to admire anything out of Manchester but you just can't fight the music argument
And now, a brief interlude to show a few little music venues in that London. Mancs please feel free to post up yer own equivalents.
Oh, and have any of you ever bin down to London to gigs? Yes you have, jolly well have not you?
How many Londoners would bother trekking all the way up there, when we're spoilt for choice down here?

Uh? Do what Binners?
Punk only existed so that the tourist tat shops in Camden can sell post cards with pictures of blokes with mohicans anyway 😉
Oh Binners you're such a...

Currently, the MEN arena is the the largest indoor arena in Europe and the United Kingdom with a capacity of 21,000, ahead of the 20,000 O2 Arena in London.

Wembley stadium is the largest outdoor venue in Britain.
What, bigger than Donington, or Glastonbury? *That* Wembley stadium doesn;t even exist anymore, they knocked it down and built a smaller one didn;t they?
all elfin's pics prove is that london is the over priviledged metropole that gets everything but produces little.
it just holds a light up to how great the rest of us are without having the wealth of the empire thrown at us.

yeah in london ???? the city in england with the least amount of football heritage.
You know you really have lost this one, don't you? You know victory is already mine?
can't see it my lovely, unless you've got something up your sleeve, it's about even, soz
tazzy - did you have to have a blue or purple tent to go to that festival?
apparently so, glastonbury is so "nice" these days they'll have all been bought in Waitrose or that horrods place down sowf.
Back in my day it was all mud n crusties 😀
Your all being very provincial, Britain leads the World in making good music
We're only a little island and look what's come out, good job all round I'd say.
Behave Khani, this is true North South Divide stuff, no need to get all multicultural on us.
If TJ has the Edinburgh defence can Elf have the New Cross defence for when he has bitten off more than he can chew but will keep flogging it untill he gets himself banned 🙂

Do not despair, . . the greatest band in the world "The Wedding Present" were formed in Leeds, . . although lead David Lewis Gedge was brought up in Manchester and supports MUFC, so you can't have everything! 😀
Ok then, as you were....

Leeds has the Sisters of Mercy, Soft Cell and the Kaiser Chiefs in its favour, too.
London is "local" for quite a large number of people
Yeah, but people with no soul, with dead eyes and frantic rushing anonymity... 😆
I don't know why I'm even defending the place, I don't live there and never have. 😉
In the spirit of the North/South divide, and as a reciprocal nod to the Yorkshire lot, they did give us

Yes! Even better IMHO than Chas 'n' Dave's Snooker Loopy 😯

TBH I've not even really got going yet love. 😉 Plenty more ammo. The Mancs seem to have run out though...
What, bigger than Donington, or Glastonbury?
Which aren't permanent... 😉 Outdoor music/cultural event? Notting Hill Carnival = second biggest street carnival in the entire World. 8)

Blah blah blah. Have you ever bin to London mate (Of course you have, because you know how fantastic it is)? Do you know it as well as I do? No, so please, just be quiet.
So, where's the pics of all these fantastic Mancunian music venues then?
Here's one:
Oh, sorry. I din't mean to be nasty. I do apologise. 🙁

Ha! Wedding Present aren't even the best band to come out of Leeds!
A bit below the belt that Fred. It upsets me. I saw some of the best gigs of my life there. From behind the bar (best seats in the house) 🙁

he's only short, it's as high as he can reach 😉

Nothing and no-one ever progressed by happily slapping itself on the back and telling it how good it was.
Technically speaking Camden shouldn't be in London.
One misses the hacienda. I had some of the best fun of my life there mmm gay night in the very early 90's [ Flesh anyone???] I once went in drag [ long story but I won the bet ] and once with my Mum.
Honestly a gay rave with my mum.....and some people think I misspent my youth

As Paul McCartney is living testament 😉
At last something we can all agree on
All together now:
Shut up, Hora

Seconded, but then Pulp kick the bobbins out of pretty much anything, London or otherwise. I was slightly irritated that I had to trek all the way down to London village when I went to see them earlier this year. Interestingly Jarvis identified Pulp as a London band at that gig, as that's where all their most famous songs were inspired and written.
Cat, pigeons, pigeons, cat...
Junkyard - I used to work on Flesh nights. The things I've seen, no man should ever witness. There are Nam veterans less traumatised 😯
And, yes.... shut it Hora!!! 😀
I went out in Camden for 7yrs. I'm qualified to talk on the subject 😉

“The boy Gedge has written some of the best love songs of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Era. You may dispute this, but I’m right and you’re wrong!” John Peel.
I agree WHISN but gutted to hear that he is MUFC 🙁

Bet you got staff toilets though never forgot the time .....actually best not go there
Good nights we shall talk of this next time we meet
the city in england with the least amount of football heritage
Come again?
Well, I think we can call that a win for Chickentown then.
