You lot always seem to come up trumps on places to fill ones face, so lets see if we can keep up your 100% track record. We're off to Harrogate for the weekend. So where would you recommend eating?

I think its worth mentioning at this point that its British Pie Week this week. So it'd seem churlish not to indulge. So somewhere with a good rep for pies would be perfect*

* other foodstuffs may possibly be considered, at a push

It's ace, and they had Leffe on draught ๐Ÿ˜€

Pork Pie Tour -
Weegmans, Wilkinsons and Middlemiss's in Otley, Lishman's in Ilkley, Weatherhead and Kendalls in Pateley and then back to Weetons and the Yorkshire Farmers in Harrogate (then nip to The Cheese Board for a chaser). Someone could probably make that into a decent mountain bike loop...

Weetons Deli is very good
If it's too busy get some hot pies to take away. The pork pies are amazing!

Plenty of good eateries in Harrogate, though don't know where to point you for a pie - town centre the brasserie is probably your best chance of pastry encased meat and gravy, otherwise the old bell tavern probably has one or more on but food can be a bit hit and miss in there (never had trouble my self mind) but they do do good beer. Further out the Swan on the stray is 10 minds or so walk from town and does usually have a pie on the menu, good chance angelos has pie themed specials on the board this week given its pie week - I'll check on the way home and confirm if you like - also usually a good choice of beer though they often lean a little light /ipa for my tastes.

Come round my gaff binners, I sort you a fish finger butty.

While I can't speak directly about their pies, Chapleos do an amazing black pudding scotch egg, so they cant be that bad.

Wedges on cold bath road do an OMGasm lasagne pie (as well as a turkey dinner pie), worth a trip for those alone.

Plus the are two, yes two, Greggs should all the above fail. a Thomas the bakers as well.

Actually, I've just read your toys out the pram thread. you can't come. We dont allow na'er do well jobless folk like yourself in...

Thai Elephant next to the expensive Thai place next door.

http://www.thaielephant.co.uk

Went a few years ago - bloody lovely. lots of it and reasonably priced.
Some say better food than the expensive Sukhothai.

Maybe they'll do a Thai Pie? ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you want a good pork pie head down to starbeck and get one from the butchers.

Seriously.

Josh, as there are about 10 butchers in Starbeck, I believe elite meats is the one you are referring to. Opposite kfc

Chez la Vie.
Really nice French restaurant, and I don't do French restaurants.
They have an early bird menu if your early.

There's a posh deli a few doors up from the Specialized Concept Store, worth a visit for coffee and cake.

Can't say I'm a fan of elite meats pork pies, like his sausage rolls though. Mitchells' (the other butcher) sold better pork pies IMHO,though they're not their own. For pork pies in Harrogate area though it's hard to beat woods' on kings Road.

Thanks for these suggestions all. I am particularly glad that we seem to be heading to some kind of pork pie heaven. And sausage rolls too. Be still my beating heart (metaphorically not literally. But then with so many pies.......)

I shall consult the boss, but I'm very intrigued by the meatball place.

The Meatball place is great. I'd avoid Cattleman's unless you simply want basic steak.

Avoid Jamie's - bloody awful.

Best place I've eaten at recently is Deano's Bar and Grill - the Yorkshire Tapas is great.

If you want a proper curry, Shalimar is the best place in town and will make you things off menu if you want to try something new.

The fat badger was good a year or so when I went there.

Gastro pub sort of thing so may well have a pie on offer!

The Orchid is amazing for Thai but might be difficult to book.

Bed is very good English food

Stuzzi is a new Italian cafe/restaurant and is getting amazing reviews from close friends

Tanning level is always very good

Sasso's Italian is very very good bit pricey

Swan is my local and sells a pulled pork burger on the specials it really is great with a pint of Roosters

Tannin Level. It's a wine reference, not a sunbathing one ๐Ÿ˜‰

Orchid a bit over-rated IMO.

William & Victoria's (near Prologue on Cold Bath Road) is very good - downstairs for bistro, upstairs for fine dining. I believe it is closed at the moment for refurbishment so worth checking but you would definitely need to book if it is open again now.

Ohh and http://www.vanzellerrestaurants.co.uk/ is meant to be very good and won several awards but I haven't been personally to confirm it myself.

I can say hammy the pulled pork burger is now on the regular menu at the Swan. My better half decided I shouldn't cook and we should go for beer instead this evening so wandered round the corner, I did have the steak and ale pie though in honour of pie week.

The Devonshire had a board or advertising Jamaican food this evening though and smelt pretty good so may have to try that some time soon.

To echo previous sentiments though bed, deanos or mirabele would be my choice for dinner proper.

Mirabele is lovely and where I'd head for something treaty.
Bed is very good (I work there time to time so maybe bias) - as mentioned earlier cycle friendly (I think it's mandatory for the staff that they own bikes) relaxed but still a nice restaurant vibe.
Deanos is also good and does (did?) a great Sunday lunch. The Yorkshire tapas is a bit different but good food and plenty in the mini portions.

Betty's for lunch is sort of a must if you've not been before but there will be a huge queue, best off heading there for breakfast, eggs benedict and a good coffee, what could be better to start the day?

Oh and try the water at the pump room museum. Definitely that.

I find it very disappointing, have us all give him all this great advice then not bother to report back.

Unless he got food poisoning....

I think he's just too shame faced to admit that he stuffed him self silly in Greggs, ruined his appetite and ignored all our advice

Afternoon All

Christ this bloody unemployment lark is hard work. With all that Jeremy Kyle, Homes under the Hammer, lunchtime drinking and shoplifting, I've not even got time to post any nonsense on here.

Well.... we arrived later than expected in very Sunny Harrogate, then went out for a walk, to make the most of the weather. By the time we got back (beer gardens may have been involved) we were overcome with a fit of can't-be-arsedness and decided to just eat in the pub where we were staying (The Kestrel).

And very nice it was too. The steaks were good, and more importantly, so was the wine list! ๐Ÿ˜€

So thanks again for the advice. Sorry I ignored you all. But it was a rare child-free weekend away, and extreme laziness was in order. We will be going back though. Harrogate is bloody lovely!!!
