But just before it hits - how about taking out a subscription so at least we can count on your money!

The thing with the article is - it looks like every other financial scam marketing you get sent which means it has significantly less credibility even if there is a grain of truth in some of it.

Read a bit and quickly decided to bury my head in the sand and whimper.

Are we all doomed then? Or, if I subscribe, will I benefit from un-doom?

Ah, good old Money Week. I believe they have predicted over 9,000 of the previous 3 financial disasters.

Money Week should come with a free bottle of Prozac, like the way you used to get a free Refresher with some copies of the Beano.

Hmm. I am not an economist, but the article simply says 'we have loads of debt' then it draws historical parallels.

I'm not convinced that's a good idea. Seems to me that the economic situation of the world changes so quickly that drawing parallels with something that happened 70 or 80 years ago can't be useful.

Also, they seem to think the world will just trundle on doing the same things without governments coming up with any clever ideas to manage or manipulate the situation.

We are stuck with loads of debt, but dont worry. Governments exist to get voted in and they both print money and regulate crazy ponzy schemes designed to boom before they go bust.

Because our Govts have a track record of clever ideas? Nope, I'm with Money Week on that one.

Our businesses and bankers have a track record of rigging it so they can carry on doing what they do, though!

As the article points out, there have been many financial crises in the modern age. However we've always recovered to continue doing the same stuff.

I was going to ask whether I should sell my shares to pay off my mortgage then I read this

Do nothing and you could be watching your shares falling in value, your home losing thousands and the government pinching every penny it can out of your pocket

So it looks like I'm stuffed whatever I do, maybe I should just turn it all into bikes which will become very valuable when no one can afford to drive a car.

All seems pretty sensible to me. Someone is going to have to pay the bills. either us or the kids, if we are lucky it will be the grandchildren, i don't think so though.

They've got me convinced. I'm so certain they're right I'm going to carefully save my money from now on. No more magazine subscriptions, that's for sure.

All of this is the reason why I invest heavily in foreign food deliveries, Mr. Calsberg and Mr. Cadbury.

I would've thought the obvious hyperbole would put any sane person off subscribing without even knowing whether they were right or not.

You will be lucky to see economy recovery within a generation or even 20 yeas. This time it is for the long haul ...

Well on the positive ends you just have to try to live on peanuts like developing countries.

Good time to change the attitude of easy money.

Well, thanks to Toys nifty link I have saved myself the subscription fees for now. Actually, not that I was ever going to subscribe based on the slightly overstated nature of the advert. 😀

Bollocks, I wish I'd read the debunking blog post before I liquidated all my assets and stocked up on baked beans and corned beef 🙁

The bills will still have to be paid and whoever is in power growth will not be happening for some time to come. Great link article with pretty informed discussion.

A graph of GDP would look similar to that. In other words, amazing how small the economy was.
