That is true, I clearly am. But I quite simply do not understand how anyone can hate another club. Be it Leeds, Manyuu, Chelsea, Chester, Everton, Darlington or whatever. It is clearly irrational behaviour and completely unacceptable in *almost* any other sport (ice hockey fans are a bit obsessive) and unacceptable in any other social situation.
Well, all said and done....at least Leeds arent Newcastle who seem to think they are a big club! (to me, they are more like Southampton).

When 'Mighty Leeds' were relegated from the Premireship a good few years back the local press in Leeds ran headlines decrying "one of the big clubs" being demoted, whinged that it shouldn't be allowed (some even said it shouldn't have been legal!) and such comments were echo'd by a few Leeds fans I know. They truely believe they are a big club, which they are for attendances, but these days for little else. Faded glories.........

As a POSH supporter I was very pleased not to have to go through the agony of the play offs. Condolences to Leeds, IME Leeds have a loyal set of fans no worse or better than many other clubs.

The fact that Leeds United see themselves as some sort of nemisis to Manchester United I find quite laughable. On team is the current English, European and world champion and the other is a 3rd divison side who kicked people in the 1970s.

Do they? Do they really? In fact, you might be surprised to hear that Leeds United players had very good relationships with the Manyuu squad when they were in the Premiership. Some of them actually spent a great deal of time socialising together.
Or do you mean the supporters? Unfortunately there are deluded supporters of every single team. Over the years, Manyuu included, no team has ever been consistently the best team. Remember that Manyuu have spent time in the lower divisions too...

I don't follow any football team enough to comment on whether the Leeds team play 'dirty', but having stood behind the Elland Road North Stand bar during a great number of games, I would certainly say a number of the Leeds fans do.
My specific example would be a Leeds-Milwall match where the police closed the (unshuttered) bars, yet us staff were expected to stay on station. Try explaining to the Leeds faithful at half time when they're 1-nil down that you won't serve them any more beer. With nothing large and solid to stand behind, and all the Police elsewhere dealing with the fights happening in the stands. I can honestly say, of all the exciting things I've done in various places around the world, I've never been quite as scared for my own wellbeing as I was there.

Let's not also forget that huge crowds at Newcastle are a relatively new thing. The song " where were you when you were #### ? " has never been truer than for Newcastle. In terms of size, somewhere behind Everton, Villa, Spurs.
Getting back on topic, I think most people dislike Leeds because of the totally unlikeable team of Don Revie and for the hooligan image that still follows the supporters of the club. In a game between Leeds and Milwall, I echo sootyandjim's sentiment that it's a pity that anyone had to win.

Precisely - and how many of us are old enough to actually remember those days? And the ones of us that can remember should be damn well old enough to have the maturity to recognise that it was circa 35 years ago and to harbour hatred on those grounds is simply immature. People of that age should be passing positives on to the next generation, not fostering hate.

I could never understand why back then Leeds were singled out. In the post above I claimed to be a MK Dons fan, but that's more to do with geography and local loyalty. I have been going to West Ham since the sixties and the club that will forever stick in my mind for fan/holigan violence will be Man United, but I saw trouble everywhere back then.

I've worked Elland Road, St James Park, Old Trafford, City of Manc stadium and Stadium of Light, plus a number of rugby grounds, including Headingley Stadium and Kingston Park, during a variety of wins and losses for all of the home teams. Elland road is the only one I've worked where anything had to be closed, although I'm told the Milwall fans played a big part in that as well, but all the same. The rugby grounds, even with mixed seating, I never heard a cross word, never mind seeing a punch thrown. I don't think aggro amongst fans is a team-specific thing, I think it's a sport specific thing. People still hold a grudge against a team from 30+ years ago, and players get away, relatively speaking, with intimidating refs (see Keane, Drogba), spitting at crowds and in extreme cases, assaulting fans (Cantona). Why is it that things like that [i]only happen in football[/i]?

Just that once. I refused to work [b]any[/b] football ground after that - it was only a temp job and for the money I made, they weren't worth the hassle I (occasionally) had to put up with.

That I DO agree with - had a great time at England V Scotland up in Edinburgh and sat next to Scotland supporters and had a great time.
Saying that, the next day I watched Leeds v Liverpool and that was pretty good too 🙂

Since the (second world) war, they've won the FA Cup in '51, '52 & '55.
They also won the Fairs Cup in '69. This was a cup for cities that hosted trade fairs. Uefa don't recognise it.

They talk a great punch-up but as some Forest fans discovered (not usually well-known for being a 'hard' crowd) they either run away or find out that Trent Bridge to River Trent is a pretty quick journey with a damp ending (much like a Leeds play-off run).

The don revie/ dirty Leeds era was well before my time, but what annoys me about weeds are the fans that spout about their massive club being too big for league one, so spending a third season in the third tier makes I laugh, with all the sh1tty little clubs like carlisle, Exeter, etc.
What also annoys me is that they only paid 7 pence in the pound for their debts whilst my club paid 100p in the pound to come out of administration, is that fair???
Should dock them another 15 points for arrogance.

We had lots of weeds supporters coming to the cufc messageboard effectively suggesting we were like sh1t on the bottom of their shoe. I admit that Carlisle are a smaller club and always will be but we are in league 1 for a reason, as are weeds. we both ain't good enough to be in the championship or higher. They all seemed to have the big I am attitude, which is the reason I dislike weeds.
