Some chap on R5 at the moment, saying that the reason he ended up in Guantanamo was that as an 18 year old he chose to go to Afghanistan to "smoke some dope".
Might I suggest that a weekend in Amsterdam would have been a better choice? 😆
That's a bit of a selective quote there CF. If it's the same report I just read on the BBC website it's more like
They explain that, being in their late teens and early twenties at the time, they had made a naive, spontaneous decision to travel for free with an aid convoy weeks before a friend's wedding, due to take place in ****stan.Mr Ahmed admits they had a secret agenda for entering Afghanistan, but it wasn't to join al-Qaeda.
"Aid work was like probably 5% of it. Our main reason was just to go and sightsee really and smoke some dope".
Amsterdam probably wouldn't have had the same sort of sights to see and I daresay that visiting ****stan isn't that unusual. Had I been in ****stan back then I'd probably have jumped at the chance to visit Afghanistan. I'd probably make a different choice these days though.
