Hi I've had a custom map centred on my home for a while now and really need to get it wall mounted. Anyone done this what did you do?
I think it's 80 X 80cm off top of my head. I was going to glue it to ply and then spray it with a shield spray kind of thing. Just not got round to it but I'm interested in your advice
I think I explored a bespoke frame but it was expensive. Oh yeah I want the cheap DIY option really
I had one mounted to a board by a framing shop. I asked for fibre board, which I think is soft and can stick pins in but they used hardboard. Didn't want to scrap it and couldn't see how it could be removed from the board without ripping so screwed it to the wall as it was. Still there a few years later and refer to it frequently. Not sure that helps?
Mine is mounted in a homemade frame, I didn't glue it or anything as it's sandwiched between the glass and back board. Mine does weigh a lot compared to a custom frame though as it's quite a big frame and piece of glass

Don't recall it being expensive. That's not my style.

I have several maps on my walls - pasted to the wall with wallpaper paste and varnished
I did this and just made the custom map* the right size (A0) for a cheap off the shelf clip frame. I appreciate that that’s probably not helpful!
*where custom map = taking many screen shots, pointing PhotoShop at the files and hitting the “please tile these multiple overlapping image files into one” and sending the resultant file to a online poster printer service.
Loads of 80x80cm frames available for peanuts if you Google.
Good to know if you find something cheap off the shelf.
It's an odd size (89x100) and I couldn't find anything last time I looked. Tried the glue onto backboard thing, but didn't work out. The board was warped for a start and then solution of PVA I used to seal it just made the map wrinkle, not tried again!
Although lots of frame options if you trim the map down, which I didn't want to do.
a whole wall in my kitchen in papered with OS maps of UK places we have ridden. looks pretty good. used normal wallpaper paste to put em up, the watered down pva as a size over the top.
We just used sticky back velcro for the one in our shop - means it's easy to remove and reposition when we change the shop fittings around and confuse all the customers.
