Octavia owners. My top brake light on my 2009 (I think) Octavia Estate has gone. It was intermittent for a while, but now doesn't seem to work at all. A quick google suggests it's probably water ingress and that a replacement unit is fairly cheap and can be a DIY fit but needs unclipping the interior plastic liner from the boot for access, and that appears to be fiddly with scope for breaking/braking ( ๐ ) things.
Any experience or advice?
Yes I've done this on my 2008 model, pretty easy really. It took about an hour all in, just be careful with the plastic clips. I think I broke the one and just left it as there's plenty of others holding all the trim on!
Thanks LS.
Just some feedback for any others on this. I've taken it all to pieces, and checked. There was current to the unit (so not switch or wiring along the way), and the unit itself looks to be very clean and dry inside. Put it back together and it worked... Cleaned up the contacts as best I could just in case it was that, though I suspect it's water ingress around the unit as the seal seems dry and crusty. I'll put a bead of sealant around the unit if it goes on the blink again.
Top tip for removing the trim : plastic tyre levers make a great substitute for "trim removal" tools for this particular job (and I suspect many others).
