I'm sure loads of people just got the same e-mail as me about O2 increasing the price by 3.2%. I know (no doubt) that there's loads of small print saying they can do this that and the other - but why is it fair that when I sign a contract with them to provide 'mobile services' at price £x for x years, I can't do anything to change it but they can turn around and jack up the price half-way through? It's total crap.....what happened to corporate responsibility and being a good citizen??
three did this earlier in the year, if I remember there was something about been able to get out of it - but it sounded a load of hassle - just remember when you renew, and remember to tell them why (not that they'll care...)
i posted this the other day, I have three iphone contracts for the household and I'm now £36 a year worse off. When I rang them they told me they're allowed to by law add 'inflation' increases.
rip off britain is firmly alive folks. It's a shame I couldn't discount them for shit signal strength
34 pence a month .... ill live .
can't quite see how it's "rip off Britain" when it's clearly detailed in the contract (which no-one ever reads these days) that they (and other companies) can raise prices annually - every other phone company has done this for the last 20 years so it's not exactly a new thing.
I recieved the same, I will be telling them to sod off in March when they start calling me to renew the contract. They say costs have increased? How come Tesco and others can offer signifcantly better deals on 02's network that 02 can?
The price of mobile tariffs has gotten ridiculous in the past few years.
Yup, intend to vote with my feet come renewal. All you haters ^^^ would you ever buy a phone contract if the sales conversation went something like:
me - so I get all of this for just £20 a month?
salesman - well yeah, sort of
me - what do you mean 'sort of'?
salesman - well, you know we can increase the monthly price whenever we see fit as long as it's in line with inflation and you'll have to just pay it or get a CCJ......it's in the contract.
me - f*ck off
Oh and for a little perspective in 1975 inflation in the UK was 25%!
Let's see you live with that......it could happen again.
try getting a contract mobile in usa , australia , new zealand or france .....
we got it good as far as the phone contracts go , admittedly they are climbing
if inflation hits 25% my phone will be the last thing im worrying about.....
luxuary item an all that !
Vodafone did the same to me, two weeks after I'd signed up for new contract. It does make a bit of a mockery of shopping round for the best deal, or getting a discount from your current provider to stay with them.
I moaned on the phone to customer support, got passed onto 'management', and they agreed to credit my account with more than the increase for the next 6 months. I got so caught up with my indignation at the injustice of it that I felt a bit embarrassed when I realised what a piffling amount it was (about 30p a month I think), but it's the principle of the thing. What's the point in having a high horse if you don't take it out for a ride every now and then? 🙂
I've been with O2 and T Mobile but Vodafone are the only ones to put the price up mid-contract so far.
This thread was a useful reminder, just came out of my O2 contract last week so have just phoned them and switched to a £15/month simplicity tariff for my iPhone 4s.

Although they're now personal computers rather than just phones....

Wrong, I'm with T-Mobile and they put the price up earlier in the year.

I remember my first phone contract - a handful of minutes by todays standards, texts were quite new and cost extra and I'm not even sure they had invented "data"! I'd imagine todays packages work out better vfm when you take into account inflation and how much more you get in terms of functionality and minutes.
Voda and Orange have done this within the life of our current contracts so I don't think the "I'll take my business elsewhere because of this" line works if you are off to another mainstream firm.
It doesn't seem right but I guess you just have to factor in whatever plan you are on will go up with inflation when you sign up.

errm, right, actually. They might have put your contract price up but Vodafone are the only ones who have ever increased the cost of my tariff.

Sure. Just amuses me when people get "free" phones worth £700 and then are surprised when their monthly bill is a bit steep. That's £30/month over 24 months before you've taken into account actual usage costs and the premium you pay for getting it on the drip over two years.
There's no other market like it, the comms companies really have played a blinder on us. You wouldn't buy anything else like that. "Well, I've had my laptop for two years now, so it's time to upgrade to the latest and greatest that's very slightly better than my current one."

I know, I was cutting and pasting (but still couldn't bring myself to have 'gotten' in there).
Just for my information, can you tell me whats wrong with the word 'Gotten'

A yankism innit.
Thanks.
I am bored, but not bored enough to bite on this one.
