have wanted to use my music headphones (sennhiser HD201) when playing on my 360,but there doesn't seem to be a socket big enough to connect them.can i buy an adapter to be able to use them (the jack is 3.5mm i think ❓

Not sure that'll work.
The socket on the controller is for a headset. Assuming that you can get an adapter (and Microsoft haven't done something, uh, Microsofty) then you'll get what's normally sent to a headset; ie, one-way in-game comms. You won't get the system's audio magically redirected to the headphones.
I've got a 2.5mm > 3.5mm adapter somewhere. I'll see if I can find it to test what it does.
