it's a dell dimension 4300 (around 2000ad vintage).although the monitor has buttons for screen settings, there isn't an option to adjust the brightness in the menu (doh!) how can i turn it down (it's especially bad with white).thanks ๐
just found the monitor model. it's a dell m991 monitor.why wouldn't they have a brightness setting in the menu โ
Does it not have a brightness roller button somewhere on the casing? If there's not one in the menus I would guess there'd be a dial somewhere
couple of seconds of googling... any help to you?

this would seem to suggest it is in the menu. are you sure you can't find it there?
This would seem to suggest you have buttons on your front panel that do brightness

thanks alfabus, but no (have read that already).there is no option in the menu to adjust brightness.have looked for any dials/rollers,but cannot find any either.tis most annoying.
Put some shades on, navigate away from white pages and think about upgrading, that one should be in a museum ๐
Are you using a DVI connection rather than a 'traditional' 15-pin VGA? If you are, your video card might be overriding the monitor settings; you may need to look on its control panel instead.
