Someone close to me - who is always in the right - has given all her personal details to these guys (passport, mothers maiden name etc).
Just how bad can it be? Credit check (experian) shows nothing bad in the last 24 hours. But I got a bad feeling.
Anyone had anything similar? Tips?

Yeah as above, seem to be a few of these companies that offer to do a "check and send" service for you (rather than doing the .gov submission yourself) and charge you for doing so. Seems to add very little except a surcharge. I'm not sure how secure details are when handed over, but understood that the main aim was to collect a high fee for submitting your info to a basically free service.
Well that's "not good" but not as terrible as I thought.
Interestingly - I can see 2 searches today on companies house for her - but that may well be the experian search / check doing it's thing. I will follow that up tomorrow. Along with a freindly chat.
Complain to google - the reason people fall for this is the site comes up ahead of the DVLA in search results when people search for the DVLA’s services

You know this will now be interpreted as her being right again, right?😁
i got stung about 6 years ago from one of these scam companies whilst searching for a nuymber for the Child Support Agency!
At the time I thought it was odd that the CSA would have an advert on google and still rang the number which ws 'DirectnumbersGov'.
After two hours on hold I got the inevitable long ringing out tone then call dumped. I'd listened to a two hour recording of on hold music.
Buried deep in their 'T's & C's' was 'refund policy' which said if you're unhappy with the service they will refund you the cost with proof of your phone bill. So i got the phone bill, saw £6 entry for th number an printed it off.
I found the site, got details of who set it up, it was a company Ltd by guarantee if I remember, verified it with google maps, took screendrop of it and essentially sent the owner an email swaying I'd rumbled his scam site.
I then played him at his own game and sent him an invoice for £250 for my time and if not paid in seven days i'd drive to Romford and deliver CCJ documents personally at the cost of £1000.
Literally by 9:30am next morning he'd sent an email saying he denied the claims the business was a scam but to compensate me for my time he would pay the £250 and he did within hours!!
I'll have a root around my emails and see if I can find it and post it.
Same scam with private number plate 'management' companies that own hee haw plates but charge an admin fee to buy via them rather than direct from Swansea. Passport application 'management' companies are similarly in need of disemboweling with a rusty forklift.
