Another chapter of career searching! Investigating relocating up t'north as there are way more jobs for folk like me (BSc environmental earth science/ exploration geo experience).
Where are all these jobs usually based?
Aberdeen's the place to be if you're looking in the UK. The big companies seem to have a presence around London/Surrey for head offices etc. but a lot of the work's done up near Aberdeen.
Edit - another plus is that Aberdeen's got loads of good cycling around it ๐
On big oil rigs in the North Sea.....
But yea Aberdeen seems to be the hub, house prices are sky high with all the rig money floating about. As it's all shift work and you will be offshore (will be jobs onshore obviously but would think most is off?) then you don't need to live local. Just get a train up for your 2 week stint and then back home.
I know a few people who work here may be worth investigating or they may be able to offer advice.
Why not look at a site like Earthworks and see where the jobs are? Most office-based geoscience jobs will probably require an MSc at least. As above, Aberdeen is central to most production related geoscience jobs but there's a lot of exploration jobs I down south (bg, bp, exxonmobil etc), Cairn in Edinburgh looks good, and various consultancy companies like the Robertson's linked above, such as Getech in Leeds, Badley Ashton in Horncastle. Also plenty of British folk in Norway (like me!)
Aberdeen is the hub, but Edinburgh and London are centres too. Have you just graduated or do you have relevant experience? *pictures finder's fee cheque in imagination*
bigjim- spent last year as a rig geo for SalvaHDR in Queensland, great references!
myfatherwasawolf- currently debating and MSc or relocation (or both)

I used to know a guy that commuted from Sussex. Thats because he'd decided to move closer to work. Prior to that he was commuting to Aberdeen from Idaho.
offshore.no
petro.no
mostly in Stavanger or Oslo
or Rigzone.com for global
Mac - its not 1980 any more though which will hinder things although as a geo exploration dude i doublt youll see muh of the north sea- more likely west africa - south america to get a start unless your very lucky
Skills shortage though -but what i will say is i found it infinately easier to get a job in oil and gas once i moved up here
Now i have my foot in the door and have gained a skill thats in demand highly atm id have no qualms in moving out of aberdeen again.
I'm currently in oil and gas in Norfolk, quite a lot of it around here
Projects are all over the world though
