Previously: Get into work for 9am where 6 music played on studio radio...suffer Keaveny for 1 hour until LL came on.

Currently: He is now from 1-4 FFS. 3 times the pain. Headphones on guaranteed for at least 15 hrs a week.

It's been a while since we had a Keaveny thread so thought I'd share my joy with you all 😉

Plus barely hospital radio quality, Chris Hawkins. I’ve given up and retuned to R4. At least there’s RadMac weekends to which to look forward.

I don't listen to radio, but I just got to ask - what this mean?
"None one 6 music!"

?

And they've put RadMac on from 7 till 10 in the morning FFS. I know you can catch up and all that, but it's just not the same.😠

That reminds me I was gonna have a moan this morning. Normal drive to work is 7-7.45 so I got 30 mins of Hawkins this morning. Won't be doing that again - I actually quite liked Keaveney but Hawkins sounds like a regional commercial radio DJ. Also not worth changing for 15 mins of Lauren. What radio station for a 6 music refugee?

Just imagine how many more road accidents that there's going to be in the morning with Chris 'Marvin the Paranoid Android' Hawkins sending everyone to sleep behind the wheel.

Mornings after ten are out now as I can't stand Mary Anne Hobnobs insipid, whimsical whitterings

I decided I'd give Keaveney a go as I've avoided him in the morinng for years. He's had an hour and thats quite enough, thanks.

Presently going through the listen again stuff on the BBC website

Cheers 6 Music!

^ 👍🏻 “listen again” found me Huey’s and Craig’s R2 shows. At some point need to get used to the Sounds app, rather than the iPlayer radio one.

he's the worst kind of 80's throw back, does he even like music ? his room 101 would be him having to play records without speaking, just shut the **** up you boring unimaginative ****.

Is there a radio DJ this doesn't apply to??

I can understand why they thought a “comedian” might be right for breakfast, and Keaveney took over from Phil Jupitus IIRC but Lauren was great this morning. We wake up to a bit of R4 until either Humphries goes Gammon or Thought for the Day starts so will miss ‘the hawk’.

Lauren’s show was great this morning. Back to back choons until i turned off around 10.

Keaveny in the afternoon is going to be a tough sell - i’d Not realised how poor his music selection was until listening to Lauren this morning. RadMac were smart enough to interview almost anyone in an intelligent way and knew their music. Keaveney needs to do a show that’s very different to his breakfast slot and it doesn’t sound like its going to happen.

6 months?

Lauren’s show was great this morning

there doesn't seem to be anything in radio / presenting that she can't turn her hand to and do really well. Seems just as good a fit on morning music radio as she does on R4 and the Culture Show.

She makes being-really-good seem effortless which contrasts quite sharply with other presenters that make 'appearing not to be trying' seem like its hard work for everyone.

I used to listen to him at breakfast which was background noise for barking at the kids to get ready. Two hours into his afternoon slot and I'm done. Shite.

The sounds app is appalling its like they want it to fail.
As for 6music why did they do it. hobs is just not mainstream enough even by 6musics standards almost like she trys to hard to be leftbank. She knows her stuff but its the wrong spot for her. Radmac have been pushed out for being well, Radmac i suppose.

LL is ace and will do well in any slot.
I think the beeb have lost the plot abit tbh
Radio 2 is fingernails on blackboard bad in the weekdays i like ball and cox (now thats a pairing they should have done)
Radio 4 is ok but you need tunes to keep the day moving.
Thank god for podcasting.
athletico mince for a bit of peter and his puffapuffa

Just had a look a Keaveny's play list so far today, there's some cracking music, Black Science Orchestra's New Jersey Deep, oh yes, Cassius 1999, not heard that for a while, Theatre of Hate? Why not. Enjoying his chat with Steve Mason. Dunno, seems ok to me.

I'm trying to convert a colleague to six music from his usual radio 2.

The line up change has really not helped, particularly as he tends to get in towards the end of Lauren, the best.

I listen mainly on iPlayer with Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles plus other bits.
What I've always been amazed by is that when I tune in 'live' I always seem to get loads of talk/shoutouts/interviews/etc. I just wanted intelligent music with minimal in-between stuff!

To be fair to 6 Music, one of the best things about Radmac was the really interesting people they'd have in for interviews.

This whole thing stinks of someone getting a new senior job at the BBC and saying 'Hey guys! We need to attract a new, younger, funkier audience. Lets mix it up a bit!'

Without stopping to think that the regular listernship well bugger off somewhere else, and the younger funkier audience will still be lisening to 1 Xtra.

I can see their listening figures, once LL has finished, going through the floor

Whereas the interviewees on Cerys show can be a little too leftfield. She appeared to be talking to a structural engineer at the weekend (only heard a short section)

LL does work in any slot seemingly, but then so does Tom Ravenscroft, yet either he doesn’t want a regular slot or they wont give him one.

I think the same about Nemone. She plays the best music on 6, really knows her stuff, and yet HobNob gets the daily gig

Which makes it all the weirder that they've retained the "Steve Lamacq talks about Idles and plays 90s indie" show. I mean, I like 90s indie, but there are limits...

For me her show is perfect lazy Sunday morning material, stuff you wouldn't ever pick out but just interesting.

Radmac have been pushed out for being well, Radmac i suppose.

Do you imagine you could do a show five days a week after undergoing throat cancer treatment that could have easily ended with being barely able to speak at all?
While the show could have carried on as a solo show, it’s the chemistry between the two of them that makes it work, it’s not forced.

This whole thing stinks of someone getting a new senior job at the BBC and saying ‘Hey guys! We need to attract a new, younger, funkier audience. Lets mix it up a bit!’

Considering there hasn’t been any change of personnel, all that’s happened is show time slots have have moved, I’m failing to see how the same presenters could magically appeal to different range of listeners to their normal range. Nemone is the only one who might do what you suggest, purely because of her obsession with EDM, which isn’t to my taste at all - she’d be more at home on 1Xtra to my mind.

I know he is ill and of course it is going to hard for the both of them to carry on with the show in its original format but i dont think thats the reason 6music moved 5 or 6 presenters around.

Never really understood what singletrack's beef was with Keaveny, I always found him pretty entertaining, and it's well understood that I'm the arbiter of good taste.

The real question here is how the hell is Steve Lamacq still on air? Nobody likes reggae or Carter USM Steve, give up. Your voice is nice though.

Yup - I've never understood the issue with Keaveny - I've always liked him. Lauren Laverne on the other hand, I just can't stand, so the fact she's gone from the mid morning slot when I'm sat at my desk and listening to the radio is a blessed relief. That her slot has been filled by MAH who I really enjoy, is even better.

I guess there's no pleasing everyone eh?

Certainly not Keaveney fans here, would always switch to R4 or 5 Live in our workshop when he was on in the morning. Thought Radmac were great in the afternoon so sad they've going and he's now on instead. Gave him a go yesterday, music was okay but he sounded really subdued compared to his normal banal irritating self. Might give it a bit longer but have rejoined Spotify on their 99p a month deal just in case.

It's all a matter of taste but I don't get the keaveney hate, I'm a fan and will miss him from the breakfast show. I find him witty, self deprecating and knowledgeable about music with good taste. I wished he'd gone to the 4-7 slot instead with lamaq ushered into a britpop care home along with Jo whiley, Sonia from echobelly and the sleeper blokes.

Next they need to mix up the weekend shows, get rid of Liz kershaw and tell Huey to tone down the noo yoik jive talk

The collective noun for a group of tubby middle aged balding men at a gig who went by themselves because their SO 'didn't like them the first time round when I was in sixth form' is more commonly known as ............

A Steve Lamacq

true fact

I was sorry to see (hear?) Keaveney go from the breakfast slot. I thought his dour, self-deprecating style was about right for that show, as a nice contrast to the shouty, ultra-cheerful types normally found on breakfast radio.

That said, I've only listened to 6 Music for a couple of years - maybe after a decade it was time for a change.

Lauren is a safe pair of hands but I had been quite impressed with Nemone's covering of the breakfast slot and would have liked to see her given a go full time.

Lamacq is definitely past his sell by date on drivetime and I'm really surprised he's hung on there. He seems a much better fit for a late evening or weekend show.

Well currently enjoying Lauren on breakfast, good variety and chat, enough to persuade me to listen on the tram over podcasts.
In the end keavney was good enough to have on in the house but not worth the data to bridge the dead zone.

And RadMac great at the weekend.

"I'm sorry I haven't a brew" replacing Teatime Themetime.
