We're staying in a cottage at Grindon for four days. We're taking our two collies and fancy a quiet break with a bit of walking. Is it pretty open and quiet for walking?

Walk to Thor's Cave.

Go early to beat the inevitable packs of other people. Including those smoking Ganj and playing the guitar because "the sound, man, the sound...."

Apart from that; it's great.

It is lovely for walking. With the OS map there's a lot of pieces you can stitch together if this kind of thing is too short.

Walk to Thor's Cave.

Go early to beat the inevitable packs of other people.

Not been that way for a while, but there's Cauldon canal/ Frogall wharf, Rudyard lake + Roaches for walking.

There's loads more walks too round Milldale/ Dovedale (can get busy in holidays esp afternoons), Hartington, Alstonfield, Longnor, Flash.

Get up to Bakewell and get some proper bakewell pudding, it's delicious.
