Not a single one in my local Morrisons.  A quick Google suggests this is a thing maybe and not just bad stock management.

How's it where you are...

I'd have thought we'd be less likely to have shortages post Brexit as we can take all the bendy ones that are outlawed by the EU. 😉

I bought s bunch of six, from Morrison's this morning, for my food drawer at work.  As i ferreted then away realised there'll be two days this week where I'll have two bananas to eat in a day!!! What a time to be alive.

If it’s anything like our Morrisons there is always a shortage of something. Never seen it fully stocked for over a year now.

This happens every now and again, usually when there's been a storm in the Caribbean delaying ships.

All the importers will be rushing their ripening, but there's not much they can do to fill the gap.

We have bananas at our local.

I'm concerned about the lack of pepperoni.

Is the beginning of the long heralded bananapocalypse? I seem to dimly that all bananas come from a single strain that could wipe out the whole global supply with a banana like COVID infection. Run for the hills. The end is nigh.

And banana flavouring is derived from an entirely different strain which is why banana sweeties etc don't taste quite like bananas.

Banana flavouring can also be synthetic (isoamyl acetate). We make quite a lot of it in one of our first year undergraduate lab experiments.

There's different varieties of bananas. Sadly you only get the worst variety in Britain because they travel well. The really nice ones ripen too fast and are a bit soft. They grow on...erm...herbs here.

We've had our two a week delivered fine (I used to eat far more when I was frequently heading out for 2hr+ rides), but in the last month or so, they've tended to arrive quite green.

Gros Michel, still to be had in the Canaries IIRC as they didn't have the offending fungal infection there, and which are smaller and tastier than Cavendish bananas.

There is a likely issue with Cavendish bananas (named after the Dukes of Devonshire as the plant from which they're all cloned grows in Chatsworth, fact fans) as again these are all grown from cloned monocultures.

There are other nice bananas and you could briefly get small red bananas which were really nice in the supermarket.

No, they are British bananas, as British as tea, and legacy of a once mighty empire.

They were especially cloned for Queen Victoria, probably.

Walked to Morrisons earlier for some bits, loads of nice rip bananas in but no cucumbers. Must be a cucumber shortage.

Sainsbo's near me yesterday had shedloads of cucumbers, and about 23 bananas. So I'm confused now.

(Suspect it's mainly a "Just after Easter" thing, and supply chains need to get themselves back up to speed)

You mean it’s simply one person’s observation?

There was also a lack of Easter eggs today.

Must be a cucumber shortage.

Morrisons well known for painting up cucumbers to look like bananas when there's a global crisis, such as right now, sheeple !
